Meesen

Just according to your favourite ex club captain Bone McDermott, he is allegedly homesick and not happy at Norwood. I have to admit I heard this second hand, so someone might be able to refute it. Anyway, thought you guys would be interested.

The cure for rookie homesickness is AFL football.

Id say most youngsters that leave their home state away from all their friends and family to a new home and end up playing in the SANFL reserves for the bottom club would be homesick. Id say every single player in the league that has to move home would be homesick at some stage. Its human nature.

Im surprised nothings been said about DeLuca yet...he was the one that said he was reluctant to leave Victoria pre draft.

I notice on the Brisbane board they are complaining about McDermott's bias towards the Crows. Funny, because according to many on here McDermott doesn't even like the Crows. ;)

I dunno what Brisbane fans are complaining for. I thought his 'special comments' were based around cheap shots and snide remarks at the Crows and im surprised none of the interstate Crows fans that would have watched it on tv brought it up.

I spoke to "young Liam" at the Members day for a few minutes....and he reckons the club and players have been fantastic to him and he loves it in Adelaide 'cos it's not like Melbourne......

....so go figure

Much like Ryan `Bruce' Willits. Hollywood has come to South Australia.

Why do clubs consistently draft/ recruit players and immediately play them out of position? Meesen is the top rated draftee ruckman, he should be played in the ruck. I realise he's very young ,but surely Norwood should be giving the lad time on the ball each quarter.

In regard to McDermot, does any one listen to a thing that comes out of his mouth .

I listened to SEN the other day (I think it was "The boys next door") and they had Dale Lewis on as part of the SANFL membership drive. He basically said that he played Meesen out of position at FF and has somewhat stagnated his development and its the reason he sent him back to reserves. He said that he tried to play Meesen as a forward/ruckman but the kid is primarily a ruckman that can rest up forward. Gave him a huge rap both as a player and a person.

Meesen will be OK, it's probably just hitting home to him that he's away and has to do it for himself. It's a natural thing to expect of a young guy who's away from home for the first time. I've heard similarly good reports about his character and discipline, so it's quite encouraging, but I would like the club to take him on a trip either as an emergency or a pinch hitter, just to give him a taste and up the excitement level and enable him to spend some quality time with Ricciuto, Thommo, Goody etc. and feel a part of the team. Just doing all the training would be a little soul destroying after all the hype of being drafted. You'd only have to sit him on the bench and give him 5 minutes a quarter in the pocket or in the ruck and whet the appetite for the future. if he does a good job, you pick him again, if he doesn't he'll be aware of wehat he needs to do and how different the pace of the game is. It needs to be remembered that a lot of his mates that were drafted at the same time are already playing, this wouldn't help the mind set.

Yeah but McDermott is known for making dumb and inaccurate statements. I remember early on in 2001 he said that the players hated Garry Ayres and had no interest playing for him and that he will be lucky to last out the season. Adelaide went on to make the finals that year and in 2002 and 2003 and lasted for a further three seasons.

I wouldnt worry about McDermott claims.
