That backup center line looks really weak (in terms of strength) when compared to the 1st picked.

Would've thought Tappy was first 22 also, probably ahead of Gys at this stage. Although if Green isn't captain i'd put Tappy there instead (based on his recent form).

Melbourne now have 39 players on their list.

I believe we need 44 (38 Listed, 2 Veteran, 4 Rookies).

So who are we going to re-rookie (I hope Wanna) or pick up in the remaining drafts?

No we currently have 42. 38 listed, 1 veteran, and 3 rookies (Nicholson, Evans, Lawrence). We've got room for 4 more rookies. See the thread for further discussion on who is left in the pool.

Judging by the teams we are short on midfielders and crumbing forwards. Also don't worry about the positions too much as most forwards and half back flankers these days should be able to rotate through the midfield. Tapscott and Davey are good examples.

I wasn't sure if Sellar would be back and McDonald forward or vice versa. That probably is my thinking as well for but arguments sake I had them the other way round.

I wouldn't support drafting Wona again. He's had enough chances and he lacks determination and commitment - seems too flaky, mentally speaking. I don't know who we should pick though.

With our 2012 list finalised, I thought I might chuck a chart together.

Probably not the right thread but anyway. I have watched probably on average 6 sandringham games a year for the last 5 or 6 years and have always thought Magner was AFL quality.
Hes body shape early days was probably a reason why he wasn't but now with the correct conditioning plus an opportunity to now do a pre season with an elite club i can certainly see him playing from round 1 and really helping ensure that you hopefully no longer get bullied by the bigger seasoned sides.
Also from what i'm hearing around the traps it would be no surprise to see Bate get back to the form he showed in 2008, he is apparently flying and has got back a little bit of dash which appeard to of deserted him through the last 2 seasons.
Also for Melbourne going forward i think it will be very beneficial if Morton can fight hes way into the 22. Hes upside is enormous if the new coaching panel can inject some confidence back into him.

Anyway lads hopefully next season can see the re-birth of melbourne as a club to be reckoned with and get some importance across the compitition.

Cheers for the insight. We can only hope a consistent and proper effort is put in by the group next year.

I hope your right, i am big fan of Bater. Now with us recruiting a few talls logically that forces his hand to play in the midfield like he did with casey this year. I had a mate who played on Bate in the under 18's TAC and said he was animal at the footy and his endurance was unbelievable. His best spot now is the midfield, needs to lose a few kilos, find a yard of pace and start winning clearences and contested footy. If he does that he will be apart of our best 22.

Two decent efforts,

My questions are how Taggert gets into a FP in the first one and how Morton and Bennell can't even make the 2nd 18 in the second one.

I think this is directed at me.

If you look closely, I have attempted to line up most of the depth players to those who play similar in style from the Best 22.

For example: Jones-Magner, McDonald-Garland etc.

I thought Bennell and Bail play similar roles so I alligned them accordingly.

Morton on the other hand was a little bit more difficult. He hasn't really found a position for himself as yet and is awkwardly stuck between KP height and average. He could push out MacDonald at half back and Evans on the wing. I couldn't make up my mind so I took the easy way out and put him on the bench!

He got there before the rookie draft, I've changed it a bit. Something interesting is that we don't have a lot of depth in pure midfielders. Alot of our young mid types have started off forward or back like Tapscott, Morton and Nicholson. Which I suppose is good for them getting AFL experience, but sometimes I think just mixing it in the centre at VFL level would also be useful. When you do the depth the recruitment of Magner and Couch is pretty obvious, as is the gap Scully has left and the need for Viney and co next draft.

Bail has played his best footy as a midfield run-with and Bennell as a small back. Yes, the easy way out with Morton.

MB, I'm still not sure how Taggert became a FP?

But apart from that good efforts
