Wowee.. The author has Tyson, Michie and Blease locked in his team. Wonder what his other 7 midfielders are.

I can certainly understand Michie and tyson, but Please.........Blease??????

I'm a bit annoyed he came up in that post, actually I'm shitty. Blease is someone I've had on my strong possibility list for a while this preseason but was keeping that to myself until after the NAB depending on the other rookies. Seems you just can't have smokies anymore or PODs because everyone just posts them up. No wonder everyone ends up having the same team. Games really been destroyed a lot with publicity.

I really really like him as an option. FWD/MID at 180k, has been in the system a couple of years and he's impressed me a lot in the games he has played. I've just always felt he's been played out of position and hasn't been given enough consecutive games to settle in to a rhythm. Bailey was a big fan of his but Neeld never really factored him in to his plans. I've always liked the kid and thought he had amazing potential, he just wasn't managed properly. Roos has taken a liking to him which is encouraging as I see him being in our best 22 if he's given the proper direction and coaching.

every single player is picked in at least a few thousand teams so i don't get what the big deal is anyway i always knew blease would be a roos type anyway

Just to play Devil's Advocate on Michie. Fremantle had some real injury concerns over the past couple of years, struggling to field a side some weeks with less than 30 fit players. And then there was Rd 23 when they rested just about all of their senior players, with many youngsters who weren't ready or deserving of a game playing. Why did Michie not get a game? It seems as though he was fit, played a full season in the WAFL. Freo midfielders to miss significant time over the past 2 years include; Mundy, Barlow, Fyfe, Morabito, Suban. If you run a comb over their list as I just have, they are actually pretty thin in the middle, yet he couldn't crack even one game in that time? Must be a reason for it...

Fremantle made the Grand Final. Melbourne couldn't win against GWS. Different kettle of fish.

I get that. I'm not saying he won't play, just that there are some question marks.
Speaking more generally about Melbourne and opportunities, how many pure mids can you take into a game? Can they play all of Jones, Viney, Tyson, Cross, Vince, McKenzie and Michie, all guys who to this point haven't shown much ability to play anywhere other than the centre square? That's not even including guys like Toumpas, Barry, M.Jones, Riley, Strauss, Blease, Salem and Watts who would also be wanting mid time. Going to be hard to pick who will play, what role they will play and how many games they play before being rested/rotated.
In short, both job security and scoring potential are question marks at Melbourne.

I forgot to include Trengove also...oops! That in no way was meant to reflect his output last year...not deliberately...just accidentally

Trengrove probably more likely to play off the half-back flank. Viney and Vince on the wings. McKenzie is a tagger. Jones will play centre most probably with Tyson as the rover.

That leaves Cross and Michie who will most likely play on the flanks. It's a fair point you raise though, but the guys you mention will get games ahead of others I would think.

I would llike to see Trengrove return to the midfield to be honest, and I think Roos will likely throw him in there too. He seems to have lost that instinctive football sense that all good young players have. He was playing very robotic, lethargic football. Seemed to have the weight of th world on his shoulders and to be thinking about 1001 things other than just seeing the ball and reacted instinctively. Some time in the middle would be the best cure for it in my mind. Hope it happens, seems like a good young kid. Can't have been easy being at Melbourne over the past few years, especially being a young kid trying to find his way, and being looked upon to lead. He needs leaders himself...he doesn't need to be one.

Absolutely agree with you, 100%, but at who's expense? You've already correctly pointed out the pure amount of people earmarked for the midfield. You can add Jack Watts to that list too, which Roos has publically said will be moved in to the midfield.

From Melbourne, can't believe the lack of Dom Tyson in teams. He'll be one of Melbourne's main midfielders and should average 85+, I'd certainly take him over Jack Martin.

I reckon it will change after his NAB challenge.

He's in my team at the moment. I'd also rather take him over JM (Martin that is, not Judd_Magic, I'd always prefer him ;)) at this stage. It's really hard to know, however, until you see JM play.

If you haven't got Tyson in your team right now, you're not doing it right..

Disappointed I'm unable to slot Vince in somewhere..

Tyson - yes

Vince - no........no.......no........(will be great for Dees, but not your SC team)

That's why I can't fit him in. If he was 300k I might consider him, but not at 420 odd..

No, not a spud, just that this year will be where midfield is where most, if not all, of $$ is to be made with rookies.

So unless they are a premo mid, these spots will be reserved for rookies.

Same reason why I eventually waved bye-bye to Daisy.

I disagree. 420K is a steal for Vince. We shall see.

The question mark against Michie was his injuries. He was very highly rated within Freo circles but he just couldn't get himself right. Everytime he'd get himself fit, the midfield would be at full strength as well meaning he was well down in the pecking order because he just couldn't break in to the side. The St Kilda game last year should have absolutely nothing read in to it. Michie was already gone from the club at that point, so there is no way he was going to be picked.

I think so too sprout. problem is at that price its two out of murphy beams and vince. ive had vince in and beams out all preseason since bernie has been a lock in my team. but cant see myself going into r1 without beams

Has never had a 100+ ave season in 8 years, awkward price to pay for someone who won't be a premium scorer.

Beams (110) > Murphy (105) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Vince (90-95*)

* Being generous, 97 is best ave from 2009, more likely to be 80-90.

Better off with a rookie who will score 75-80 and use $$ elsewhere.

IMO

That is where we differ. You are placing alot of weight on how he has scored in the past. I am looking at his role with Roos' game style and taking a bit of a punt. 129 and 115 are obviously not to be sneezed at. Not gospel, but it's an indicator. Appreciate your thoughts however.
