Hi everyone.

I'm just interested to know what exactly is behind Melbourne playing their away fixture vs Etihad based teams at the MCG (i.e. St Kilda this week, Carlton and Essendon early in the year).

And why was North exempt from the deal?

It all has to do with the fixture scheduling. Afl don't like playing more than two games at any one ground over sat/sun. It's the same question I have as to why MFC play home games at Etihad.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Carlton and Essendon tend to play all their home games against MCG sides at the MCG. This is the first time in recent memory that Melbourne have played an away game against StKilda at the MCG.

I actually think St Kilda wanted to play more games at the MCG because they have to write a bigger cheque to ethihad than they would at the G. Maybe Essendon and Carlton feel the same? I don't know. What i do know it makes no difference because we are shite. In time (hopefully) we climb up the ladder and we get 14 matches at the G it will start to matter. Having said that when we get better we should be able to win at ethihad.

Sounds like there is more too it as we played our home game vs you at the MCG, but played our home game vs Hawthorn at Etihad (which always pull good numbers effectively costing us 20,000 less attendees).

Ah well. Thanks for your time and hope you guys enjoy big win :thumbsu:

You can never look at the fixture via a simple game vs game comparison. There are many things to consider:

1) Stadium quotas
2) Anticipated attendances
3) Other matches during the round so you don't have too many 5 day breaks etc
4) Other teams often ask to play more at the MCG, eg. St Kilda
5) TV scheduling

And probably many others that I have failed to remember at this point.
