Hey guys,

I was reading one of my old footy records again from 1995 and there is an artilce in it about Melbourne proposing a name change to the 'Melbourne City Demons'.

Must not have worked much at all, as since then I have heard absolutely nothing about this term!! But I was just wondering how you would feel if you changed your name to 'Melbourne City' rather than just 'Melbourne'? :)

Hard to say really. It's not much of a change, but if we had to change to stay alive, I'd take "Melbourne City Demons" over merging, or not existing at all.

But we are the oldest club in the world. We are not changing for anyone! :D

doesnt really have the same ring to it... so i dont like it all that much.

but as adam said - if it were do or die im sure we'd take it.

hmmm... 1995, that would've been about the same time as the silly name changes in the NRL

Canterbury changed their name to the Sydney Bulldogs before reverting back

Balmain changed their name to the Sydney Tigers before reverting back (later merging)

Easts changed their name to the Sydney City Roosters, now just the Sydney Roosters

Not sure it really did much for any of those clubs. I'd say Melbourne did the right thing, I can't see what it would achieve.

Would hate it if it happened. Not because it sounds bad or tradition or anything. The reason is because I go for Melboure is becaues i live in Melbourne, but not in the city of Melbourne. I would be just like all the other supporters who go for Geelong but don't live there or what ever. Not that that's really wrong in todays day and age. But I just like the idea of going for a team which represents where you come from.
