Does anyone else feel this is big danger game?
I'm worried if the blues aren't 100% switched on and the Dee's are agressive at the ball, as they've shown the can be, Carlton will get done.
I reckon Dean Bailey would fancy his team against the blues if his players play to their capabilities.
Talent & abilitiy wise the blues are ahead of the Dee's but if the blues go into the game not 100% switched on then i wont be suprised at all if the Dee's get up.
Its these type of games like the Essendon & Hawthorne games we loose when where supposably favourites.
We need to start beating teams convincingly that are positioned below us instead of just doing enough to get the job done hence Eagles last week.

Go blues, but i've got a funny feeling!!!

Not worried at all, in fact very confident that we will smash them!

If Melbourne wanna take us on for an attacking afternoons footy at the G we'll maul them. I was worried pre the Hawks game and was spot on as it turned out but with Waitey n Hoops back in I just can;t see the young and up and coming Dee's troubling us.

Fast forward a few years and this will be the match of the season without a doubt (bookmark it :p)

I LOVE THE CFC predicts...

Blues by 46pts
Betts 5
Irish 3
Murphy 3
Garlett 3

3 Murphy
2 Kruezer
1 Judd

:D

I'm not worried about this one but was worried about the Hawks game.

Hawks are bigger bodied and had the nucleus of a flag side. Dees are a couple of years behind us in terms of development, and even though they can play a hard tackling physical game, it should not upset us as much as when the Hawks did it.

Being superstitious though and seeing an identical thread title to the Hawks game, while nobody declared the Eagles game as a danger game and we won ... well, I am hoping you having jinxed us.

Yer im not to worried about this game. I believe that we will be too strong in the middle, our defence will be too good for the Melbourne forward line and our unpredictability in the forward line will benefit us. The only thing that worries me is their pace around the ground, hopefully those other aspects will get us over the line. Just hop the boys have the same mindset as they did against Geelong and St Kilda

Correct.
There are very few teams that we could beat if we aren't 100% switched on.

Sure. I reckon Bailey will have a massive migraine after the game if our players play to theirs.

Pick two teams that have the wood on us.........
Favourites:
Round 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, 10. Won 4 from 6. Lost only to Dons and Hawks who have our measure.
Underdogs:
Round 3, 5, 6 and 7. Won 2 from 4. Doesn't look like we prefer underdog status after all.
All "favourite" tells you is where the money is going.

Sure. I'd be more worried this week if we did beat the WCE by the 11 goals we should have.
With a scratchy win, the boys won't be able to sit back and think they are going really well. Ratts will have them up and going.
Go blues, but i've got a funny feeling!!!
You're neurotic. We get it.:thumbsu:

i agree, have sort of the same feeling as the Hawks game.

I was more than confident with Geelong and St.Kilda yet concerned about Hawthorn.

This game: We are favourites but you can toss a coin on it.
Having said that a ten goal win wouldn't surprise me either.

It has an odd feeling about it which has permeated through the media also, with many selecting Melbourne.

how is this a "danger" game?
a danger game is when a team is sh*t but somehow gets up against us (read: essendon)
Melbourne are a very decent side on the up.

I too am worried that they will shut us down with their pressure and skills.

What games aren't danger games, using your rationale.

Clearly if we are not 100% switched on, and the opposition play to the best of their abilities, we are a good chance to lose. This applies to every game however, so I'm not sure it needs to be said every week.

Also, where did this mindset of needing to beat teams convincingly come from? As I said after last weeks game, our average winning margin is 42 points.

The only games that we've perhaps been in a position to put teams away and didn't is the Cats & Eagles. In both games however we never looked like losing, and came away with 2 very comfortable wins.

If Melbourne do indeed play to their best capabilities against us as you suggest, I would think the energy we managed to conserve from last weeks game will very much come in handy, and may be the difference for us in the end.

Regardless, how can supporters expect our boys to smash other teams, if they aren't even confident of a win...

I am definitely concerned about this game, if we take in the same attitude we did against the Hawks then we are doomed, Melb will beat us, to think that they got run over by WCE at the 'g' two weeks makes me think we should knock them off, but it doesn't always work that way, as Hawks proved after smashing us following beating the Tig's by a mere 3 pts the week before

I have noticed listening to radio during the week that Dees fans are getting really cocky, making a big deal of the McLean situation and they are very confident of a win this week

Any game we play against lowly opposition is a "danger game" from now on. We've shown we have enough quality to smash last years best teams to pieces, and now the challenge is to clock up wins against weaker opposition when our motivation levels aren't high. Cats have been successful against good opposition, but also continually clock up wins against crappy teams. I guess that's called consistency - more of a mental thing than footballing ability. That's the next area we have to improve on actually. Perhaps these sort of games are more a of test for us than playing against the so-called top-4 teams who we have no trouble beating.

:)

Our best > their best.

Our average > their average.

Our average < their best.

So yeh, we can definitely lose it. Melbourne are a good young side that's going places. We are favourites, and should be, but it's gonna take a good showing to beat the Dees.

Nah, Every game is a danger if your not at 100%, but i fell this week the boys will not take Melbourne lightly and will get home, if we put 4 solid quarters together they wont get near us. As others have said, Hawthorn was a real danger as they have talent all throughout their side......it was just a matter of them finding some form, and getting us on an off day......unfortunately they did:(

We haven't been great last few weeks, even in the wins over port and Eagles we have been caught sleeping or haven't kept the foot down. This i think will be addressed through the week and a 4 quarter effort will be on show.:thumbsu:

Taking my youngest son to his first game tomorrow (weather permitting) so a win will be just that little bit better.

Blues by 37pts

Top post as always BB :thumbsu:

Duz McClean switching to Carlton give Melbourne more motivation to defeat Carlton?
Dont underrate Melbourne, their best is as good as any, ask Collingwood fans.

The sad thing is that for us every game is a danger game, until we get over this mental block we won't be able to take that next step.

Bloody elitist toff, FazMan!

Like I'd sit with YOU people...

I appreciate the finer things in life... steak from Vlado's, wine from Coonawarra, beer from Germany, football from Carlton and pr0n from the Czech republic.

Wait... no... I mean... something classy.

:thumbsu: I agree. It has nothing to do with how good or bad Melbourne is, its all in the mind and at this stage of our development we often turn up to games with our head in the clouds.

A couple of big ins for us, Houlihan and Waite gives our forward line a bit more class and while they do have some talent in the midfield they're a bit behind us in development. I expect a fairly entertaining, free flowing game but we'll be good enough to come out with a 4-5 goal win. Not nearly as worried about this as I was with the Hawthorn game. ;)
