Melbourne Storm players to come to Carlton?

Was just watching the half time show on channel 10 and Jon ralph mentioned Billy slater and another played are a chance to come to Carlton who have seen them up close.
Any possibility?

Gee that'd be alright, he's a great athlete.

Just what we need, another great athlete that can't hit the side of a house from 10mtrs with a drop punt.:D

Just the herald sun conjuoring a ridiculous story, billy is really one of the best in the world why would he come and play afl, seriously they dig up garbage.

Anyway, I;d stay those storm boys will stick together to get their club back on track, and so they should, Go Storm !

yeah i heard this as well. WTF??? First Stevo talking about a come back now Billy Slater? I mean couldn't he make millions in France or even go to gridiron and make even more millions/

The Hun really is a toilet paper, but you know maybe he'll be a good replacement for Houla or something. I guess he can help us with our 'run and carry' game!!

The players where said to be Slater & Inglis and could be tempted to CFC as we see them first hand r go to GWS.

Inglis is an absolute machine..would love to see him in a blues jumper. Sadly there's not much of a story here, the story was saying that if they did leave the Storm, we may pick them up due to seeing them train often. Typical herald sun b.s.

As mentioned if they were to leave, they are 2 of the best players in the comp if not rugby league world wide. If they did leave the Strom for what ever reason they would def chase the big dollars in France.

Doesn't mean we can't still try and go after em. I would absolutley go for it even though the chances of it actually eventuating are nil.

Very true. Both of em are super athletes, and IMO could easily pick up aussie rules. One would think they'd have to drop a little weight, but either way would love to see em playing for us.

Billy Slater wouldn't know the first thing about Aussie Rules. He is a North Qld boy who most likely would never have even played Aussie Rules in the schoolyard, let alone at a competitive level. The Hun really spruik some absolute crap at times.

Sorry to change the subject here but can anybody tell me how to start a new thread. I havent started one before and it is giving me the shits.

Slater seems a little small but its a nice image of him ducking and weaving his way through the midfield!

Inglis on the other hand from memory last year also made comments about how he wouldn't mind playing AFL.

Issue is both these boys are on big money, and as previously mentioned they both have several outlets to find much more money if they chose to do so.

Thats my thoughts.

Due to their status as unregistered players with the AFL, then the income would not be included in the Salary Cap, which would make them very attractive to clubs, in a marketing sense. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong on this account.

I seriously doubt that this will happen and can see them staying at the Storm once the salary cap issues have been sorted out, or, if the storm do fold, i can see them going to England or France for big dollars and just escape the whole NRL/Gallop circus.

Cheers.

Yeh thats right because they are unregistered non of their salary would count towards the salary cap.
i did a sports economics paper at uni and it was on GC 17

this is part of what i got it applies to Karmichael Hunt

AFL list-building rule 21.4.3 allows a club to put a player who has not played Australian football at any level for three years can go straight on to their list as a rookie and must be elevated to the senior list. If Hunt is placed on the senior list as an injury replacement all of his salary will remain outside the salary cap. If Hunt then remains on the senior list only a portion will be counted in the years following.

and so apparently GC17 have front ended his contract massively so they will never really have to pay him much on the cap.

great marketing scheme for them and anyone else who decides to do it in the future.

Key AFL figures welcome Hunt

Brett Ratten:
"(Melbourne Storm coach) Craig (Bellamy) was looking at Mitch Robinson and saying, 'jeez, he's a good mover when he's doing the rugby stuff and then we look at Greg Inglis and Billy Slater and think that maybe there is a chance for players to change code."

"You can see players that could have the ability to do it, but it's pretty unlikely that we'll be chasing any Storm players and it's pretty unlikely they'll be chasing any of our players."

"There are basketballers and Setanta (O'hAilpin) from hurling and the Gaelic Football over in Ireland so there might be something that opens up for clubs to think outside the square."

Ask Starchamber. Just pause for a few minutes once you get to the 10th new thread.

Why would any top-line NRL player join an AFL club when they can get big dollars playing the code they know in England? If Slater & Inglis go anywhere, it'll be there.

i suppose it could be they want to try something new or even the fact that they don't want to go and live in france!
but yeh you would assume they wont swap to AFL

They were discussing this on Saturday morning on SEN with Hutchy and Pickering. Pickering was arguing with Hutchy whether if Slater can change code. Hutchy said no and Pickering was saying he could do it easily.

Then out of no where, David Parkin rang up the station and said that every now and then Carlton and Storm would play against each other in both footy and rugby, and Parkin said he has seen Slater a few times playing footy and claims that he can kick the ball really well.

Slater is a great athlete, I would love to see him playing for us. but I doubt it's gonna happen.

1 Because The Storm is a joke why play for a club when you lose your 2 premierships

2 Rugby League is a real joke especially in the 21st Century after what has happen any sane person would give up the sport after the events of the week.

Maybe lets wait a minute they not so greedy they don't need 150 houses and there own Island.Do you think these guys are hard on cash most are set for life if they lived for 300 years. They might want a new challenge and try a new game and still get paid alright plus stay living in Australia. Why would anyone want to live in a smelly place like London who don't bath and have teeth like horses

At least he would tackle (unlike some players coughHOOPScough haha)and be bloody brilliant at it.
That is all he would be good at... Hot though.

we'd all marvel at him and be inspired until he still forgets to bounce even after being on the list for 4 years. 'he'll grow into it eventually......'
i think all our non-footballing background player niches are full right now.
