Heard Alan Stockdale on the radio this morning talking about a website he's set up for members and supporters to put their own voices up about what's going on in the club. In his words he was saying that a lot of fans were pretty disenchanted with the way the changes were being handled at the club without the members having a say. I'm not sure if that's true but it will be interesting to see what kind of results this website yields. It seems a big part of Alan Stockdales campaign for the presidency.

Have the members ever had a say in football decisions or board appointments?
I think the point is that the members aren't getting a say in the changes at all. We're being force fed the AFL decisions and don't get a say.

Im probably too cynical but this seems like a political move. I dont like the cut of his jib we are not here to make decisions about the structure of the club. Imagine all the MFC facebook page clowns actually having input.

Replace 'matters' with 'demons' or 'FC'. The colours, the demon horns & the 'M' shape for Melbourne. Simple and effective.

Could see a clash jumper being designed around it too.

Yep, Stockdale is coming off as a right w***er.

Yep, Stockdale is coming off as a right ******.

Name me a better candidate. Has a good track record, intelligent as all hell, will appeal to the MCC bracket, has the contacts to get things happening for the club.

I'm not saying he's not a good candidate, he's definitely a w***er.

Eddie McGuire's a w***er, Kochie's a w***er, Jim Brayshaw is arguably a w***er, Sticks is definitely a w***er - there are no shortages of w***ers in the Presidential stakes.

He's a knob. We just got out of the papers and this dickhole is putting us back in them for the sake of grandstanding. He can GAGF.

Jimmy was not a knob but some of the decisions he made in good faith and in retrospect were questionable, such as the decision to keep Schwab and expel Bailey.

I don't care if Stockdale is a knob or kicks his dog or spits on old bags. I want someone who is ruthlessly going to make good decisions.

Will he do that though? His way of asserting himself into the race for the presidency has seemed detrimental to the current state of the club.

I think Lyon had something to do with that but it speaks volumes he had that much influence over such a timid board in the first place. Our board had no aggots or self determination.

Stockdale is a politician...and like all politicians , he has one big fat ego. That's all this is about. Where was he when we were on the bones of our arse.?

I haven't heard a peep out of this silver tail for about 5 years...so why all of a sudden now? Peter Jackson will make the call....we just need to trust his judgment, and not that of a silver tail politician.

Stockdale has had his go previously. Alan, why don't you go out and buy a membership ticket and help us that way.

We have had enough of politics and politicians hovering around our club like vultures.

Jimmy wanted to get rid of both but was outvoted at board-level, I think.

I also reckon having a president who has a thing for spitting on old ladies in public is likely to end the same way EnergyWatch did, but with more of a Richmond-supporting flavour.

Statement posted on their facebook:

Melbourne Matters would like to clarify some misinformation for the benefit of all members wanting to learn more about our position. It seems many people believe Alan Stockdale and the rest of the Melbourne Matters team are at odds with Peter Jackson and the AFL. Nothing could be further from the truth. Melbourne Matters wants to work with the AFL and Peter Jackson. We have made that perfectly clear to both and any media suggestion stating otherwise is incorrect not coming from us.

We believe we have a strong mix of skills and experience which can add significant value to the decision making, cultural change, transparency and leadership at board level not the executive level.

Peter Jackson is a strong football CEO and doing a fine job for the MFC, but the AFL, the existing MFC board review and anyone in the business community will agree that even the very best CEO's need support from a strong board. In fact, any decent CEO would agree too. Many of the Melbourne Matters team are currently CEO's and our capability and the organisations we work for are stronger because of our boards, not in spite of them.

Do not buy into the 'us' versus 'them' mentality that some are trying to make of this situation. For the Melbourne Football Club to restore itself to a winning, financially strong and united culture it needs a mix of strength, skill and experience on the board AND within the management.

Melbourne Matters intends to support Peter Jackson in building the best possible team on the field, in the football department and throughout the organisation. Go Dees!

Should change the url to doesitreallymatter.com.au and base his campaign on the fact that we're ****ed no matter what and might as well give it to him.

He's saying some pretty uncomfortable things.

I like him, but I don't like his recruits.
I'm too lazy and unfortunately a little disconnected from the day to day sports/afl media at the moment. What uncomfortable things is he saying?
