Arrests for theft related offences.

Less offenders.

Not violent crime.

Repeat offenders are being caught by police at a greater rate, hence the number goes up.

Largely theft related offences are tied to spikes in cost of living pressures.

If it was cost of living related, wouldn't there be more young people? Rather than the cabal of young offenders that keep getting re-arrested?

No, becausethe effects of changes to SES are not felt evenly or proportionally.

Those already in a precarious position often experience a negative multiplier across a range of quality of life measures during economic downturns or cost of living spikes.

More dramatic increases in poverty, family violence, worsened mental health, physical health and educational outcomes, and so on. This is a well studied area in criminology, governance and public health.

Literally one of the best things you can do to reduce the violent crime rate is decrease unemployment (lower interest rates) and increase funding for domestic violence intervention and services.

Likewise for petty and property related crime, any policies that improve housing security, and increase the safety net, in our case Centrelink payments, access to mental health support and so on.

There are models for community programs that help decrease youth recidivism.

But nothing comes even close to decreasing the rate of domestic violence, or petty youth crime relating to theft, than federal financial support, more favourable monetary conditions for employment and more funding/staff available to service health and domestic violence services.

A bloke on the drink and bashing his wife or kids due to the pressures of work, and a national shortage of professional support workers who specialise in DV counselling, intervention or support for victims is what makes angry kids, broken homes, addicted parents, and children forced to steel food or commit petty crime to get by.

Start locking them up and throwing away the key and or deporting them and you’ll see if drop quickly.
Were the people that murdered those two kids Sudanese?

I think anyone committing these violent offences irrespective of skin colour need to be locked away. If we are going to deport them then deport Tom Sewell as well.

I think that’s a great idea.
Crime in England became virtually non existent during the convict era.
Should be more people with your insight in the Federal opposition 👍

Oh you mean violent criminals lose.
I agree that locking poor people and minorities up and throwing away the key and/or deporting them prevents violent crime.
I feel we’re in furious agreement.

I wish I was brave enough to stand with you as you heroically bashed those women at Camp Sovereignty 😍
