After another terrible performance last night it got me thinking about our leaders and who are our top 5 players, and how do they compare to the rest of the league.

For mine the MFC top 5 are:
Clark
Jones
Frawley
Sylvia
Moloney

If you compare these top 5 to any other club's top 5 players I think you will realise why we are preforming as bad as we are. Let me try explain:

Clark, Jones and Frawley are genuine good players but they are not elite. The other 2 a inconstant front runners at best. Our top 5 are no better then GWS or GC and maybe even Port. There is not too many teams we can say our Top 5 players are as good as yours.

I'm not saying we can't play some good footy with our current list - just tying to point out how far behind other clubs we really are.

I don't think its the end of the world, we have some nice young players - Trenners, Grimes, Gysberts, Magnet , Tom Mac, Viney (coming), Watts, i'm sure I've forgotten some others but they form a nice solid young core. But we are not ready to compete with the best no where near it.

I have faith in Neeld and co to develop the list and get the job done. I also hope our senior guys can stand up. But until we draft/develop (& get fitter) or recruit in some new talent we will struggle.

I do think we will win some games this year but not in the next 4 weeks unless there is dramatic improvement in passion and commitment from our so called leaders.

It hurts to admit we are so poor but it's a reality us Demonlanders have to face.

We don't have to accept weak performances but lets get behind Neeld as we need someone hard to enforce change.

Thanks guys - feel free to dissect and discuss. :thumbsu::)

Just to clarify Jones, Frawls and Clark are our closest to elite but not quite there yet.

Then our list drops way off

Clark
Frawley
Jones
Jurrah

That's it.

On the cusp I'd go Jordie Mc as a tagger, he's been sublime.

Yup no one can question Jordie's work ethic and ability to play a role. Howe just keeps trying week in week out too. Amazing what happens when you are a late pick from the backwater leagues of TAS. You actually appreciate the chance to play league footy and don't take it for granted ;)

This year its been
Magner
Jones
Clarke
Chipper

Pretty much this. Jamar maybe a bit stiff to miss but those you've mentioned rotate around our top 5 from week-to-week

I don't get how Moloney is all of a sudden tagged as a front runner.

Some people have very short memories

I stand by my comments - even in his Bluey year he was a player that runs hard one way and struggles the other. Played well against the poor and average teams and struggled against the good teams. Classic front running.

He lacks run, he lacks accountability and his offense isn't that much chop. He can't get a gig in the leadership group in a team of kids and his disposal is average at best. His kicks have way too much air, can't hit a bullet pass.

He is lost in the new MFC defensive structure - and I personally think his best footy is past him.

I am happy to take everything back if he steps up and proves me wrong with the remaining 14 games.

I'd like to hear your opinion

I reckon Frawley is close, but agree not quite elite, but he sure does a good job on opposition super star forwards, particularly given the ball goes down there 60 times a game and often without pressure from our midfield. Buddy played ok last night but I noticed most of his attempts on goal were scrappy snaps or while literally standing on the boundary line which is good defensive play in the circumstances.

My top five this year would be Frawley, Jones, Magner, Clark and Howe. With Grimes, McKenzie, and Garland behind those guys.

Clark can definately become an elite big forward, love how he launches himself at the ball no matter what, he will kick many more goals once we can start evening the inside 50 counts.

Jurrah might be our best player.

We have missed him more than anyone could have imagined, and he is our only match winner.
