This is obviously not news but I am surprised by how bad it seems

Meanwhile, Josh Mellington who suffered a hamstring injury in his fifth game for Freo on Saturday, flew to Melbourne earlier today to consult a surgeon.

Bond said that the 19-year-old was likely to undergo surgery as early as tomorrow on his hamstring tendon.

“Josh has had a really good start to the season and the injury is a bitter blow for him and the club,” he said.

“But with the appropriate period of recovery and rehabilitation, we are hopeful that Josh will be available to play in the latter part of the season.”

here i was thinking he'd just tweaked a hammy. that's a serious injury. feel for the kid but it does open up room for a rookie.

Real shame, he's been about our only genuine goal kicking forward so far this year.

Opens the door for Spurr or Menaegola though. Maybe both if Fyfe is gone as well.

I understand that injuries are normal for a club but why do freo players always have to get Long Term Injuries. :(
Best of luck to Mellington in his recovery

We have just lost our only genuine class permanent forward.

For a team severely struggling to finish properly, it now just got a lot harder.

Well this sucks. Hoping for a speedy recovery Mello.

One small positive is the potential elevation of Menegola or Spurr. Both are deserving and I daresay both could really make something of any chance given.

Spurr would be the front runner for the upgrade but Menegola would be a very close second the fact that he is a high half forward with elite fitness may help his chances. Although Ross has said that Spurr probably would be playing if available.

Are u effing serious
FFS thought absolutely nothing of this an thought no worries have a rest and he will be back in 2-3weeks.

Finally gets an opportunity an was showing very promising signs.
Leads hard an shows no fear, not afraid to put body on line, an good finishing skills.
Just needed to get more games into him an he would start to get more involved.

Even the most bloody minor looking injuries turn out to be major. I wasn't expecting him to be out for long.

Two trainers had to help him off the ground, i call that a serious hamstring injury, i remember thinking at the time thats a 5 or 6 week injury.

Correct.

Anyone know how Roberts is coping with his sinus problem that's kept him out for the last two weeks?

Was thinking the exact same thing at the time. What's worse is that it is not like he has been dropped....he can't even come back through the mighty West Perth falcons for a number of weeks and god knows some help is needed on that front:(
