Little snippet in the Hun today about memorable AFL debuts. Of course, referring to Hawkins.

Theres been so many which were left out.

As a Collingwood supporter Mark McGough immediately springs to mind.

Against Hawthorn he had a large ammount of disposals 25-30? kicked 2 goals all while playing on Shane Crawford. 3 Brownlow votes.

I'm quite sure that Marty McGrath character kicked 5 goals on debut.

I'm sick of hearing so much about Hawkins.

Atleast with someone like Franklin for example, he's played as many game as he's had articles directed at him.

Havent read the article as of yet but Adrian McAdam springs to mind. Kicked 9 goals on debut on a Friday night against Richmond in 1993. Then kicked 10 or something the week after....amazing effort that will never be toppled again IMO

i was there that night :( tore us to shreds

Dean Greig got 39 possessions on debut for the Saints if my memory serves correct.

Also followed it up with a beautiful right cross to Gavin Brown's glass jaw :D

I remember a scrawny wingman named Mark Dwyer from Koroit (near Warrnambool) who played on the wing for Fitzroy in the mid 80's.
He was invited to the club on the Thursday or Friday, was selected for the game on Saturday and just starred.
Got something like 3 BOGs in his first 3 games, then disappeared.

John Georgiades form WA kicked 7 or 8 on debut for the Dogs - but he was a bit older, I think.

Daniel Metropolis (West Coast) kicked something like 5 goals with his first 5 kicks in football.

That was absolute quality, and he maintained it for 3 -4 weeks from memory, then even his next few after that were top shelf (while not quite matching his first 3).

Adrian McAdam holds the VFL/AFL record for least games to 50 goals (I think it was 8 from memory?).

I like the Brisbane Bears debut in 1987..... :thumbsu:

In recent year, Nathan Ablett's debut sticks in my mind.
Kicked a couple of goal with passes from his brother.
Ablett to Ablett for the first time. Nathan kicks a goal with his first kick in AFL.

from a tigers POV

andy kellaway tearing garry lyon a new one on debut

richo and duncan kellaway debuting in the same game (v st kilda i think). DK racked up the stats, richo snagged a few goals - not as spectacular as others i guess.

scotty cummings debut vs swans?

You just beat me too it. Scotty Cummings kicked 7 or 8 on debut at the G. Was there, immediately thought we have a future club champion here. how things change.

John Coleman is waaaaay out in front - I think 10 on debut. Then 12 the next week.

Carl Ditterich would be #2.

John Georgiades jagged 7 or 8 I think...
