Memory Lane... Crows vs Blues

you know it does frustrate me that the club doesn't make more of our rivarly with these clubs

The vic clubs love beating us, they may not admit it, butthe Crows are the natural enemy to the majority of the vic based clubs.

It would be great if the AFC could someone leverage off this when building a greater profile in Victoria - if anything, we could be the great Villian the Vic Media are looking for (well we already are but you get my drift)

i get what you mean, but i think that was more evident in the early 90's than it is now. most clubs don't give the preverbial shit that we are from SA, they just play whose in front of them

perhaps, but even from the fans I talk to, they love beating the Crows.

the more you make of it, the bigger it gets.

This sounds amateurish on my behalf, but I really would love to meet Chapman and the crows and here what they are doing to drive the clubs image other than the new logo and not talking about the bad things.

When Mods took that mark, the girl sitting in front of me accidentally poked me in the eye with the pointy end of her flag stick.

I consequently missed the goal, and the next ten minutes of action as I desperately tried to weather the pain and regain my vision.

Who the hell waves a flag after a mark anyway?

lol! Terribly unlucky

Danger's hit on Murphy last year is almost as happy of a memory v Carlton as the Burton mark.

Seeing Murphy stagger off was a confirming moment, and I remember thinking "we're back".

Also, a few memories of Princes Park haunt me. Not a place for children in the tri-colours.

I remember attending a lot of ugly losses against Carlton at Princess Park as a kid. These were always very rainy, miserable days where you had to pay extra just to get a seat. Shithouse. One of these days Carlton unveiled their new mascot, Captain Carlton, which turned out to be a really fat guy wearing lycra. As he was driven around the boundary my dad yelled out "waaannnkkker" and everyone laughed. Even the poor bastard in the lycra suit cracked a smile. It was the only highlight of that day unfortunately. The first time I saw us win there was in 2003. McLeod and Burton dominated. It was another wet and miserable day, but damn it was nice finallly getting the win.

There was also the game at Etihad (in 2007 I think) where we finally won wearing that god awful red guernsey. To make things even more bizarre Luke Jericho kicked the winning goal, providing almost the only highlight in his career with us.

The definite lowlight was getting thrashed in the 2001 Elimination Final at the MCG. I was sitting near the boundary behind Darren Jarman as he kicked what would be his last goal in the AFL during the final quarter. Sad day.

As he was lining up for that goal I remember Bruce saying "Jarman at 34 years of age has played some exquisite footy this year."

He was right. Who remembers the home game against Carlton that year? Jarman kicked a bag on Silvagni. One particular goal stands out - McLeod won the ball from an impossible situation in the middle, it ended up out on the North Eastern flank, Ricciuto look away handballed to Jarman and Jars slotted it from 50 on the run hard up against the boundary.

McLeod, to Ricciuto, to Jarman.

As Bruce said, "THAT, is as good as you'll ever see."

I was there that day. We never looked like winning. Even as a young kid I knew Sean Tasker wasn't the answer at half forward.......

The thing I always remember about Waverley Park was how much space there was between the goal line and the fence. If you wanted to give it to the opposition cheer squad after kicking a goal you had to run a half marathon.
Yeh but he played really well had he had kicked straight would have been a different game. Task Kicked 2 golas late but missed 3 or 4 earlier and had about 2 touched right on the line.

i've got that jarman goal at home somewhere, i'll upload it to youtube later

1997 was the year, round three at Princess Park. We just came off the famous "Pitiful Pitman" game against the tigers at the G. It was classic Crows (back then), looked like a million dollars for the first half.. Then it all went pear shaped, as it did against Carlton in the 90's.. Got completely over-run as per usual. What made it worse was sitting in that hidious Jack Elliot stand, sun pounding into my skull and seeing Carton run around in those foul sky blue M and M jumpers.. Oh it was pure bliss!

Princess Park, 2001

Absolute stinker of day - miserable rain, probably less than 10 degrees. Only maybe 15 goals total kicked between the two sides.

Mark Ricciuto stands up to kick 4 goals to single handedly will us over the line in.

Was GREAT day indeed, Roo was super brilliant.. It also took the heat off of Ayres if I recall correct. And yes it was bloody cold haha.

Bump...

Remember that time when Walker did his knee and we got thumped?

Vomit.

More bad - Darren Jarman's last game, a losing elimination final in 2001 :(

Happier times: Round 9 2006 when we were perhaps playing our best football ever. A 7 goal to 1 opening term. Blitzed them by 64 point. Untouchable. If only we could have bottled it. McLeod 34 possessions, 3 Brownlow votes - regulation. Doc Clarke 1 kick, 1 handball, 0 marks - regulation.

2012 when we won by 69 points I believe. That was the day we became a legitimate force that year IMO. Danger was incredible. Was our first win in Melbourne for quite a while I believe.

Jenkins sprint through wing/half forward and big goal at 2:53 was delicious..
Danger's ribs broke Murphy's shoulder..
Sparkling footy that day..

Ha, looks I added the video to my post at the same time as you!

Jenkins arrived that day too. Awesome goal. Left and right hand bounce in that play as well.

Who remembers Carlton at football park in 1997? Trent Ormand Allen absolutely flattened sexton with one of the best shirt fronts ever seen.

Osullivan later running past elbowed Ormand allen from behind breaking his jaw. It was the last match both players played that year, Osullivans last ever. Carlton and their media then castigated Trent because he made a statement about the assault which lead to Osullivan getting 5 games. No umpire saw it. Apparently Trent broke the 'code'.

Its a tricky one. Alot of people forgot how much of a dog act it was from a retiring player. With the amount of injuries we had late that year, Ormand Allen was a big loss.

And we played well that day against a very experienced side.

Good moments was Jarman in 2001 and Burton's screamer in 2009.

Not so good moments. What about Fevola in 2004 kicking it from almost the stands. And then Stiffy's horribly stiff kick at the other end. One of the many moral victories over the last dozen years.
