Memory Lane... Crows vs Blues

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

My old man and brother go on about that Fev kick to this day. (I was O/S at the time).
Must have been a beauty.

Better than Tony Hall's gem in the SOO to name 'his' pocket?

make your own mind up, i don't know how he got the bend the ball back like that

Round 18, 2008:

Porps got sniped by Browne fairly early on and was stretchered off. The Carlton supporters were hurling abuse at him from the sidelines and our supporters were baying for blood.

Brad Moran played the game of his life, taking 7 marks and kicking 4 goals.

VB picked up 40 disposals that day.

Fev was unstoppable, kicking 5 on Rutten.

Shirley did a ripper job on Judd, keeping him to just 15 disposals, while kicking 2 goals himself.

We ran out of legs in the last quarter but still managed to win by 8 points.

Princess Park, 2001

Absolute stinker of day - miserable rain, probably less than 10 degrees. Only maybe 15 goals total kicked between the two sides.

Mark Ricciuto stands up to kick 4 goals to single handedly will us over the line in.

This!

In that game Roo was a man possessed. Kicked 5 goals in the the most miserable conditions where the game was nearly called off.

He can out breathing fire, absolutely SMASHED Lance Whitnall and I think it was Matthew Lappin into the ground to make a statement. If he did that today, he would be rubbed out for a season

One of the most inspirational games you are every going to see.

The M&M's guernsey game? :o

They looked ridiculous. Until you glimpsed the scoreboard. Then we looked ridiculous.

Anyone go to the Modra comeback game in 1998? I didn't, no doubt some wild party took precedence. But apparently when he came on for the first time it generated the biggest cheer of all time, and later he took a hanger and the crowd erupted as never before.

The first Crows game I attended was Carlton in 91. They played a 2 man forward line - Kernahan and Dorotich for most of the first half. Completely stifled all our run and flow that had destroyed the Hawks.

That wet April day in 2001 was the weekend I moved to Canberra. Driving across the Hay plain, dragging a trailer, with Mrs Crow following in her car. Did a lot of shouting at the radio! Couldn't get any replay or coverage in the ACT, so my father-in-law posted us a video! This was to become a regular event for 2 years until we got Fox.

Wasn't this Peter Vardy or Kane Johnson debut match?

And the match Andrew Jarman refused to play?

No, didn't go but only memory was David Parkin banging on the glass in the coaches box after a Carlton victory.

What a game!

We'd lost the first three games of the season, including the one where Andrew Leoncelli kicked the winning goal at AAMI with 30 seconds left.

We had to win this game. The players all jumped on Ayers after the game too. Was a big moment for the club at the time.

And the match Andrew Jarman refused to play?
Haha!

Had forgotten that.

Pop quiz... anyone remember the player who came in for Jarman?

Answer >>Andrew McLeod if memory serves<<

As it happened, that game allowed Jarman to reach the minimum number of SANFL games to qualify for the finals whereas the above player who replaced Jarman missed out on qualification by one game.

I remember a few SANFL callers to 5AA crying foul at the time.

Great game that! I have fond memories too, as it was my first game at Footy Park. It was a very different experience to be actually cheering along with the majority at the footy instead of being part of the away contingent in Melbourne.

The only downside was sitting next to a *cough* larger, older woman who had the most nasal voice you have ever heard, and had only two phrases... "Kick it Crows!", and "UP! Crows!"

You sure?

I thought it was Kane Johnson as the replacement as he got knocked out but I'll take your word for it and trust your judgement.

Without checking your answer, I am rather certain it was Andrew McLeod

I remember being at the first round of SANFL finals of 1996, it was the Qualifying/Elimination final double header (can't remember who was playing who though - I wasn't at the Prelim final, I remember watching Hodges sink the 'legs on TV... sad times).

Anyway, everytime Jarman got near the ball, all the Port supporters in the crowd would boo like crazy because McLeod should have been playing for them.

after the weekends effort Rnd 8 2012 V the Blues will be well remembered for all the right reasons...

how good was that performance!...hard... tough... and skillful. absolutely loved it...in fact i think i'll watch the replay now...:)

Go Crows

Bump

Better add 2012 to the list. Round 8 at the Dome.

Goal down at quarter time, we then kick 15 goals to 3 after that to run out 69 point winners.

Dangerfield and Murphy had a massive collision, both went in hard for the footy as they always do. Unfortunately Murphy comes off second best and is injured. Dangerfield goes on to have 35 possessions and 3 Brownlow votes. Three goals each from Vince, Callinan and Tippett (3.4).

One of our best games of last season.

that was my away travel game last year and despite missing the last 5minutes to catch the plane home, i was inspired. i can't remember seeing the team play that hard and clean since.. well.. ever.

and what about jenkins' checkie and his long run and bounce and goal form 50.

Laughed when it happened. Murphy went in hard, sliding in for a hip & shoulder to Danger's ribs. Broke his own shoulder, Danger barely noticed. Good times.

I went over on the CSG bus for this one: http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/1996/010319960713.html

Utterly forgettable game, all I remember is my sister's friend winning the prize for closest to the margin because she was the only one realistic enough to pick that we'd get humped.

I also went over to the 2011 game at Etihad that we lost by a goal. Andy f***ing Otten and that dropped mark.

Are you forgetting a certain 20m backwards handball to the other team?

Are you forgetting a certain 20m backwards handball to the other team?

Not forgetting it, it happened... What's the phrase... RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!

It was a horrible bit of play, but the Otten dropped mark had a much greater effect on the game. Halfway through the last quarter, 2 goals up, we've kicked the last 5 including the first 3 of the last quarter, we have players queuing up on the outer wing, we switch... Otten drops a chest mark in 20m of space, turnover, Carlton goal. Momentum sapped, Carlton kick the next 2 and we lose.

If Otten didn't drop that mark, Dougie's handball would've been irrelevant because we would have been out of sight.

Otten was still in terrible pain after being kicked in the balls a bit earlier.

Surely the Harry Madden/Shaun Rehn chase in the 1993 semi final ranks high.

I was there that day. We never looked like winning. Even as a young kid I knew Sean Tasker wasn't the answer at half forward.......

The thing I always remember about Waverley Park was how much space there was between the goal line and the fence. If you wanted to give it to the opposition cheer squad after kicking a goal you had to run a half marathon.

When Mods took that mark, the girl sitting in front of me accidentally poked me in the eye with the pointy end of her flag stick.

I consequently missed the goal, and the next ten minutes of action as I desperately tried to weather the pain and regain my vision.

Who the hell waves a flag after a mark anyway?
