Guess I need to expand on what the "movie" actually is

It's an expose on the Japanese Army's attempts to create biological/bacterial weapons in the last year or so of WW2.

I have no idea as to the factual nature of the individual segments, to be honest I hope & pray that it is all fiction. I have my doubts though.

The extreme graphic manner of the presentation requires the viewer to have a VERY strong stomach. In all my years watching, and appreciating, movies, I have never seen anything even remotely close to this as far as shock value goes. Trust me, I have seen the shock/horror films & documentaries, they do not even come close to this

As far as I know all the stuff in it is taken from real life accounts of the Japanese occupation of China. I think there was some effort to claim the footage itself was real, but that's a crock. Someone made a sequel at some point too.

I actually paid money to see this in the cinema on its first release about 15 years back or so. If I recall, it was Derryn Hinch on hi TV show that praised the film for its depiction of war atrocities and remarked that it should be seen.

It is extremely hard to stomach as it does not spare a moment of horror and by the halfway mark I was having trouble wondering what the point of the whole thing was.

Sure, it showed the Japanese as monsters and I suppose this is a story that needed to be told, but the cold-hearted and unflinching manner it which it unfolded simply left me senseless, like a day at an abbatoir.

Possibly the most unpleasant experience I've had in a cinema.
