He is very important to our side at the moment, very stupid thing to do. We had just got back on track, won 4 in a row and have a massive game against an old enemy this week, and what's he do? get's out on the piss and misses training.

I like him in the side, but i'm getting sick of his antics. The club has stuck by him through some bad times but he doesn't seem to want to put his head down and repay the faith shown.

Serious trade bait at seasons end.

Selfish attitude by Lovett. We are on a 'roll' and he goes and does a stupid thing like that. :confused:

Does he think he can get by on natural talent? Isn't prepared to do the simple things that is required at an AFL club eg. attend a compulsory training session.

He is starting to show some Cupido signs... Hope I'm wrong cause like Cupido, he is a gun and is an important player for us going forward, but we can't put up with this any longer.

2 weeks may seem harsh, but considering his form off field during the pre season it's hardly surprising. Disappointing.

A trade needs to be seriously considered. We can cover him, and it will send a very strong message to the rest of the team - bullshit is NOT tolerated at the EFC.

Good move by the leadership group, need to take a firm stance. I don't think 2 weeks is over-kill. Will he play in vfl, or afl? i would make him play in vfl reserves :p then he can see whats it's like to play in 200 point loses, instead of wins.

I love the way he plays when he is on, has a tendency to fade in and out of games but I have to say I disagree, he needs to be traded now, the no bullsh*t approach needs to be enforced. Dempsey can do everything Lovett can (so long term that's an automatic swap) and we might still be able to get say a 3rd round pick for him and with GC17 and West Sydney coming in it would be a good time to stock up on draft picks and send a message to the list.

:thumbsu: If he can't keep his head in, then what he adds to the team will diminish over time.

If we can get something for him in this draft, we should.

I think we need to maintain our speed through the midfield as the Tigers have a few quick players and bringing in a tall (Hooker) for a small (Lovett) may back fire.

True that, but Dyson is not a AFL standard player he has had 57 games to prove himself and what has he given us?? Two good preseason games. Time to go in another direction and with Dempsey, Hocking, Houli, Hislop and others still a few weeks away and the size of the Tigers I think it's time to role Hooker out.

We have not seen Dempsey do enough to say that, he may have the pace but nobody in the essendon side has BOTH the extreme pace, unbelievable skill and great poise that Lovett always has when he gets the ball. He is an integral part of the team and although he obviously does need to pull his head in with his off field demeanours, he has the ability to be a matchwinner and is beneficial to our game. The 2 match ban is right on, but trading him at the end of the year would be a stupid move and something we can ill afford. This year in particular he has really started to show some consistency and has been in our best on a multitude of occasions. Just look at the game from round 3, 5, 7, and more recent games too; his value to the team is outstanding, and trading him would be a far cry from the needs of the team at this stage.

So what you're saying is that Lovett is a gun, therefore we turn a blind eye to his repeated off-field transgressions.

If John Williams (for example) had transgressed as many times as Lovett has, what would people be saying then?

Seriously how dumb is that - very disappointed maybe get Longy back to have a word to him to sort him out, if not give back the No.13 for someone else, to good a player to be watching in crucial games at the G

For those of you calling for him to be traded, I disagree.

Andrew's not a troublesome character, his attitude from all reports is quite good and he fits in well with the team. He lacks the discipline of others, but penalties like this one and the one in the pre-season are about teaching him this discipline and making him learn his importance to the team.

It's not a necessary action to trade every guy that slips up. You trade or delist troublesome characters. Guys like Cupido and Cole weren't working hard enough, that's not a problem that Andrew's had. He's worked as hard as anyone this season, probably in the fittest shape he's ever been. He's not troublesome from that perspective. Ty Zantuck's probably the other guy we've got rid of who's had disciplinary problems, but it was well known before he got to the club that he was a troubled person. His behaviour since we got rid of him has only reflected that. He was on a last chance. Andrew's never been as erratic a person as Ty Zantuck was.

It's disappointing, but this penalty about Andrew learning his importance to the side. We'll stick with him.

We haven't turned a blind eye.

We suspended him for 2 weeks and the entire pre-season.

He's paid dearly, and it's all about teaching him the necessary discipline to play at the Essendon Football Club.

Actually no, i never said that. What I said that was a 2 match ban was a good result, trading him is an exagerration. Understand?

Well 1 didn't work last time Ari! Why I do agree he is a good player he can't been seen to get away with letting his team mates down AGAIN!
He is a loose canon and, as good as he is, I'm happy about the 2 week suspension.

We are outsiders to make finals this year, but it will ram home the message to the list that they can't break team rules. All good for '09.

Lovett will be remembered for his famous 'i could have you killed and no-one would know about it' comment to his ex-gf.

Surely he must be on his last warning?!
