He was the owner of the Hellfire clubs wasn't he?

Didn't know him - although I may very well have watched him have candle wax poured onto his nether regions whilst being beaten & tortured by some goth madams, and restrained by barbed wire a stretching rack.

Ollie 'I invented techno, nah really, I did' Olsen was in that scene too wasn't he?

While we are on the subject of Melbourne club owning impresarios called Richard, I was amazed to see - reading the Kryal Castle rave drug shock horror stories of a month or so ago - that Richie 'Richie Rich' McNeil of Hardware Productions is still going strong.

That bloke must be worth zillions by now.

Is Ollie Olsen still alive?

He did some brilliant stuff with his band "NO", and he also did the Max Q project with Michael Hutchence.

Just noticed that TOD is online. I reckon he can answer that one if he drops in here to see how the emos are going.

Blast from the past. Well name dropped son.

One hit wonder Of Big Pig 'fame'?

I'm giving this thread 5 stars.

Im writing - correction, getting pissed and stabbing fitfully at a Word document - a book set in melbourne in the early to mid 90s, so all this stuff is good for getting the creative juices flowing and reminding me of times and places.

If this thread had a theme tune, it would Shivers by The Boys Next Door.

Is The Arthouse still there in its Arthouse form? When I'm over this winter I'm definitely going in for a pot or two if it is.

Ollie Olsen's wiki. Interesting reading. I forgot him starting Psy Harmonics, though I never liked that Goa trance snake charming music bullshit.

Brilliant is a strong word, Shinners.

I liked a couple of other decent early bands he was in - Whirlywirld, and The Orchestra Of Skin And Bone.

Ollie's still recording and producing to this day, working a lot in film/TV.

Mate - scrap the book. Make it a screenplay or script and I'll make it into a feature or TV series for you.

More fun than Underbelly.

Co-production of the century.

I'm not really joking.

It pretty much is.

I usually go past it on my Friday trips to the Queen Vic market, and every now and again, they seem to have some punks standing outside.

Sure is. Hasn't changed a bit. Layout still exactly the same.

And still a quality venue for up-and-coming (and the odd established) punk band(s).

Saw Hot Water Music play a killer show there a few years back. Hot as all fcuk night, packed to the rafters, and some stellar, live punk-n-roll from a quality band. Massive gig-going highlight for me.

According to Holy Moly, David Byrne is having his entire house wired up with sensors and speakers, in an attempt to create an architectural piano or some such guff.

That's the kind of stuff I can see Ollie Olsen being into. Either that or an Oasis cover band project.

You can bid for the movie rights once the book wins the Miles Franklin.

However am I am willing to move away from the spirit of the book to ensure the film version has loads of scenes where Abbie Cornish gets her jugs out.

Magnificent. That news gladdens my heart.

Is the Central Club (I think it was called) on Victoria Street still there too? Just up from The Public Bar.

Me and a mate waged school one day, and they served us pots even though we were wearing school uniforms. Brilliant.

Early 90's again. I remember hearing an interview with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame.

He invented a gadget called the orgasmatron. Had his electric guitar fitted out with attachments and electrodes which he'd attached to the clitoris of Annie Lennox and strum her with 'Here Comes The Rain Again' playing in the background.

I reckon that's the sort of weird shit Ollie would get up to.

I'm stretching the memory, but there was also an indie night at the Carron Tavern in West Melbourne. The name of the night will come to me later at about 3.55am.

Club Go Fast (Chasers?)

Chasers night was Hard N Fast.

That was were private school girls would go to be 'naughty'.
