A couple of points. From what I can gather, we hardly have the facilities to impress any prospective recruit. Most of you guys would know better than me but it seems we have a dogs breakfast when it comes to training ground, weights facilities and administrative centre. Hardly eye catching stuff for someone who might have multi suitors at trade week. Secondly, I haven't been a big fan of Brad Green for the past few years for a variety of reasons and would gladly have sent him back to Tasmania. But reading his comments today (and I believe he made a great speech at the B&F) the man bleeds red and blue. Our current position genuinely hurts him; and I don't believe you can buy or trade for that. I'll probably see him a bit diferently from now on.

We're just a joke to the rest of the AFL. First Judd didnt want anything to do with Melbourne, then Prismall, and Warnock who has a brother at the club didnt even want to come to the club. We're just a nothing club.

Boo hoo. Perhaps because we have too many sooky supporters like you.

F off you moron!

Finally somebody in this forum has realised what i've been trying to say for the past 4 mths!! Welcome to reality dee-stroyers.. these other boneheads on this forum have no flipping idea.

We never do anything, you look at Carlton and the list they've been able to assemble compared to what we have done.
Carlton? LMFAO.

How long did it take them to get where they are now? This is the second season in a row we didnt make finals, carltons 7th, including 3 spoons. In that time we made 4 finals series. Football is a game of cycles mate, don't start crying because Carlton are on the up. They had to eventually because they were down there for so long.

Our time will come mate. 2010.

i remember thinkin shit hawthorn should do well out of their draft the year they had about 4 top 20 picks. a year or 2 later they were still crap, but it all began to turn for them, new facilities, top 20 picks were growing and playing together etc etc. At the start of this year people gave me shit left right and centre. "melbourne are a disgrace, bla bla ****ing bla." i would say "look tool, its a 2 year process". get a shit load of picks (1,17,19) 2008, 3 top 20 next year, plus then we will have our new stadium. 9 top 20 picks from the previous 3 years or whatever the figure is and away we go. its all workin to plan... we win 4 games next year and we're sweet. GO DEEZ 2012

Keep the faith it will turn around. Under Clarkson we went from 15th to 11th to 6th to premiers. One season doesnt define a football club.

I really hope Melbourne can turn it around in the next few years:thumbsu:

boy's don't worry about it when Warnock get's delisted we'll be the ones laughing he is just as likely to be Delisted as he is to become a good player. the man must thing he's jesus christ asking for that much money when he has done shit all.

We missed out on Prismall and Warnock. Who gives a shit? Warnock has not proven anything at senior level yet and all he has going for him is height. Prismall is coming off a serious knee injury and, to be honest, the last thing we need is another player with problems like that. We have enough already.

No good getting down about it. We have some terrific young kids coming through and we will only add to that in the draft. We may also pick up someone in the PSD and we will look to 2009. If we can keep the majority of our players on the park next year we won't be AS bad as last year.

Swings and round-a-bouts people. Our turn will come.

People forget how quick things can change in the football world. It was only two years ago when we were the best Victorian team in the league. We smashed this years Grand Finalists Geelong and Hawthorn, and we went into the 2007 season as one of the premiership contenders.

If players don't want to come to our club, that's fine. We'll just pile up on youngsters in the draft and get back to September where we belong.

PS - Warnock wears a sports bra for **** sake and Prismall is a cripple. Big deal!

PPS - We were also averaging the 3rd highest crowds in Victoria just two season ago. So this club has a lot of potential, despite our recent performances.

  • MELBOURNE spent weeks trading blows in the fight for Robbie Warnock and Brent Prismall, but was ultimately knocked out by a wage explosion.
Prismall, who was paid only $125,000 this season at Geelong, accepted an offer of about $900,000 over three years to join Essendon.
Sources also confirmed yesterday that Carlton offered Warnock a deal too good to refuse - $1.6 million over four years.
Melbourne, which made formal presentations to both players, could not vindicate trying to match the money on the table.
Although the Demons will pay only 92.5 per cent of the salary cap this year, they were more concerned about setting a dangerous pay precedent.
Melbourne will pay Brad Green about $1.1 million over the next three years after he yesterday decided to stay put, but was mindful of throwing its pay structure out of whack.
"Robbie and Brent have got outstanding contracts off the clubs they've gone to," Melbourne football operations manager Chris Connolly said.
"That has played a part.
"There's two aspects to trade week - the first one is the contracts on the table and the second one is the clubs doing a deal.
"The contracts on the table, offered to both of those players, were out of our reach.
"It wasn't about the 92.5 per cent - it was more about those contracts offered to Brent and Robbie, as we go into a new era, being a reference point for all contracts."
The Demons had been eyeing Prismall for months and made a formal pitch to him last week.
But his decision to go with the security of a lucrative deal at Essendon was understandable given he will miss most of next season with a knee injury.
Melbourne also made a presentation to promising ruckman Warnock, going as far as inviting him into the boardroom late in the season.
"In the end, Robbie chose Carlton. We had our position and we were going to stick to it," Connolly said.
"For Brent, we thought the situation was out a bit so we pulled out."
The Demons, who bottomed out this year, are not an attractive proposition for recruits.
Connolly said success will change that.
"We're a club that's re-shaping. There's a lot of excitement, but as we get the runs on the board that (appeal to rival players) will increase," he said.
Green, 27, had appeared destined for Collingwood at one stage this week, but said he woke up yesterday convinced staying at Melbourne was the right move.
"It was not the easiest of weeks, but I'm glad it's all over now and I'm happy to be a Demon," Green said.
He said he had a call to make between being a one-club player or leaving for perhaps more instant success.
"All said and done, I decided I was happy to stay at Melbourne, be a life member and play out my career."
Green said he did not entertain nominating for the pre-season draft.
"I was never out to burn Melbourne and walk in the pre-season draft. I've put too much time into the club to leave them with nothing," Green said.
