Absolutely stoked the big fella is finally playing, I thought we had lost him to the injury gods for good

Max Gawn had only played 17 games at the same stage of his career as Apeness.

Its not ideal but eh his character is highly regarded at the club. He has trimmed down his weight to put less pressure on his knees. I think the club will give him another year at least, its not like we are over flowing with tall talent right now anyway.
History has shown that some players take a while to develop to become decent Especially KPPs.

Sam Jacobs played like 20 games in his 4-5 seasons at Carlton until he joined the crows. He became a decent ruckman for the crows. Zac Clarke played 36 games in his 1st 4 years at freo: 5 in 2009, 3 in 2010 then 13 in 2011 then 15 in 2012.

Taylor Walker was pick 75 in the 2007 draft. He spent his 1st season in the reserves for Norwood in the SANFL and kicked 50 goals that season. He developed slowly from 2009-11 with the crows. Then 2012 became his break through year and he kicked 60 goals.

Apeness was slowly developing. yeah he payed 2 games for freo in 2014. Played most of 2014 in the WAFL. Played the 1st half of 2015 in the WAFL then did his knee and was out for 12 months. He played a few freo games in the 2nd half of 2016, 5 game and with 3 goals to be exact. He then missed the 2017 season with another knee injury again. its an important time for him as his contract runs out this season.

I am glad Apeness is playing now. He needs to play every game for freo this season to get a contract extension. I hope he plays 7-9 games and kicks around 10 goals to keep him at least as depth.

I still reckon he will get another year for the simple fact we don't have a lot of KPFs on our list.

I personally didn’t think we’d ever see him on the park in a Freo jumper again, to broken, but I’m so happy I was wrong.
I think the big fella is getting better Each week as he builds confidence and starts to believe he belongs in the afl.
He starting to hold marks, bust packs but wat has impressed me the most has been his hand balling. He has quality hands in traffic and underpressure.
I really hope we give him another crack with a new contract

Worth tempering expectations too. It was Carlton. Their backline is the worst part of their side as they’ve actually got one or two talents in the midfield and forward line. Weitering had a great first season but I have no idea what his issue has been after that, whether it’s just typical Carlton pressure or he needs support, I don’t care enough to watch them to find out.

Expectations are already pretty tempered, but you can understand why we're talking up a couple of weeks where Apeness has actually shown that he can play. That's not something he's done before at AFL level. Or even at Carltons level.

Good old Clyde, good to hear he's back around the club.

What's Kepler Brady up to these days?

http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/2018-03-20/lyons-switch-sets-banfield-on-his-way

"Banfield paid tribute to his former WAFL club, especially former Freo player Kepler Bradley, who is the current reserves coach at Claremont.

Thanks to Bradley’s encouragement, Banfield found his feet at league level where he won the club’s best and fairest in 2017.

“I played five games of twos footy before I made my league debut and he really pumped me up," Banfield said.

“He gave me a lot of confidence, that I could play at that level and I think that’s where I started building some momentum to go into league footy.”"

Keep expectations of Apeness low this season. Only for the fact he has missed a lot of footy. I’ve been happy with his effort so far this year and see it as a bit of a preseason to preseason as wel as building his confidence st competing at an AFL level. If he can have an injury free run leading into round 1 next year he will become a very important player for us.

He is a pivotal part of our future forward line.Sadly since being at the club , he has missed more games than he has played,or close to it, due to injury.
He has been thrown to the wolves the last two weeks. Having to ruck basically all day in the Lions game when he should have been set up as a forward with Cox.
Again on the weekend , he had to play over 50% of the game as a ruckman rather than a forward due to Darcy being short of game time.
He will be a better player next season , and Lyon will play him in the rest of the games this season to get his body right.

That's a good deal for everyone. A solid 2019 and a two or three year deal to follow or an injury filled year and options are explored.

If you're going to be coming into form it's a good time to be out of contract.
