If this is true all i can say is it is about time.

He has struggled all season and is constantly left without a matchup due to his lack of speed and mobility.

He was recruited to take the best defenders week in week out not the oppositions 4th and 5th best forwards.

Bombers will be better for this.

Yeah with our season not going good, prob a good idea to drop him !! Mal has been serviceable but no real match up for him, good decision!! Totally agree with Knighter on this one !!

:p For a bloke who the papers were doing double paged spreads telling us how he was going to return to his titianic best, that he was fitter and stronger than ever, and that he would once again reign as an immovable backstop for an exciting new era at Essendon. Tis quite comical Mal's fall from grace. :D The writing was on the wall last year, but it appears now more and more Bomber fans, (like the rest of us who already have) are awkening to his endearing struggles. Put Mal in a good team and he's great because he gets carried, just like he did at Brisbane, when he has to battle hard he's exposed as very, very average.

piss off idiot

piss off idiot

So a Bomber fan creates a thread saying it's about time Mal got axed, your side will be better for it, and I come in as a neutral and say yes he is struggling, and get told by yourself to piss off.

Bias much?

In no way was I trolling, I just had a giggle when I saw this thread and remembered back to the pre- season and how the papers were talking him up.

Turn your blinkers off mate, it's just an opinion.

Don't put us all in the same basket, mate!

Win a flag after 44 years and you think you're the most successful club in the competition.............. though our 16 flags might say otherwise! ;)

What do you mean?

Most neutral AFL fans could clearly see last season that Mal was struggling pretty badly.

There were a number of Bombers people who were still willing to show some faith in Sheedy's decision to get him, but now more and more of those are starting to realise how tough he is doing it. I'm sure there are still some (although intriguingly) who think Mal's been good.

You could say that about more than half of Geelong. You are currently successful based purely on your midfield and Scarlett... that is all!

What you said was it's quite comical watching his fall from grace.

Blinkers much?

And i got blasted by my fellow Bomber supporters earlier in the season when i had a differing opinion to the heard in regards to Michael.

But i think you are trying to coax a response out of people?

He has had a steller career no doubt about that.

Let's look at the positives.

Which young player should be given the opportunity to cement a role in our backline?

It's gotta be Pears in my opinion.

Already has the big body. He is quick and has a polished disposal.

And he has pretty good form at Bendigo.

Give him the rest of the season Knightsy! :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Jeez I think everyone is being a bit harsh on Mal here. He has tried his best and has done well in these cicrumstances. He cops the blame to much, our midfield is the real problem.

No, it is part of the problem.

His lack of speed and mobility are also a problem.

Was a gun defender but does not have the tools anymore.

What is the point of playing him if he is going to get the 4th and 5th best defender as was the case against Port?

A young first year player can take the 4th and 5th best forwards whilst developing his game.

Surely we can't just continue to say that it is because he didn't have a matchup.

Apparantly Treadrea was the perfect matchup for Mal yet Knights didn't even have the confidence to put him onto Tredders. Instead he went with Courtney Johns.

That pretty much sums it up.

Sir Jimbob im with you on this one. Your right his lack of speed and mobility are a problem you can see it every week. Do you think Pears will fill his spot or someone else will and Pears slotted into a pocket or flank?
