I am not so sure on this one for us to go Thoolen who we had already acknowledge was not good enough and Bennell who is a rookie in an area we are a great strength over Googs makes me think we really really don't rate him for one reason or another. It's strange because I actually thought he was the ideal sort of rookie prospect and even would have preferred drafting him over L Brown

Don't think so, Dave.

We need a handful of experienced stronger bodied players at VFL level to assist the young developing kids not more 'project players' - this was an area I reckon we were lacking in this season.

Apparently we have made an offer to Damien Peverill to play VFL with us in 2009, which I believe is a step in the right direction. We are likely to have a very young VFL team most weeks, so it's important they have plenty of support.

I think when you draft a youngster they must stay on ur list for minimum 2 years unless somebody else picks them up. hence y we had to redraft thoolen onto our rookie list

He was spotted early on but to be honest he's never really produced any sustained good football to be worthy of the attention.

Not true.
Anyone can be delisted in any of the delisting windows at the end the year regardless of how long they have been on a list.

The issue for us was he was contracted for two years and we could either redraft him or pay him out.
We elected to redraft him.

Good question Dave. Buckley should definitely be looked at. Tall running defender. I hear other VFL clubs might be interested but there are some issues with his availabilty for training.

It seems we thought our defence was suspect enough to draft Leigh Brown at age 26, but not a KP defender for the future. Fair enough if we rated other players higher in the National Draft; obviously we rated Sidebottom and Beams as first-round picks, Blight was considered a steal, and Rounds we must have rated higher than, say Lisle. But to get through the entire rookie draft and only reclaim Thoolen as far as KPPs go? A bit perplexing from what I can make out, especially after Hine's comments of it being a "needs" draft and that we would be targetting a KP defender, surely he wasn't thinking of Brown?

Reed could be a Tall Defender but I do find it funny too that we drafted L Brown but we got know one in the Rookie Draft Accept Rooking Thoolen

I'm not sure that the club thought that Thoolen was not good enough - I think it might be more the case that they thought he would maybe not be ready next year and that is why they went with Brown as a short-term fix. We must think there is still some development in him otherwise they would not have rookie-listed him. We were not forced to and the salary cap is not an issue - I would hope we would not redraft him as a rookie just because we were paying him already.

My thought process is Leigh Brown replaces Thoolen, Toby develops on the rookie list for 2 years then gets elevated when Presti retires if he has developed as hoped.

As shawthing09 and TRS have mentioned, I would have thought another KP defender might have been on the cards so that we had some options if Thoolen does not develop but that might be Reed. We had a look at Gugliotta and we had enough chances to draft him or one of the others like Gaertner so we must not have rated them. No point drafting one if we do not rate them.

Sounds like some bosses I've had, say whatever at the the time to suit their mood/situation or to make them popular. And in other situations say the opposite to meet their agenda.
