Are we finally seeing him realising his potential?

Obviously had a shocking run of injuries, but the former Australian u/19 captain is starting to pile on some runs.

Just made his second sheffield shield ton against the Bulls today, to cap off some pretty solid scores in the last month, and is looking good.

Obviously I'm not alluding to anything drastic, but more that the doom and gloom outlook has turned in the matter of 24 hours with centuries to Hill and M.Marsh......

Lets hope both pile on the runs for the rest of the SS season.

same goes for Peter Handscomb, while hasn't made the hundred's as of yet, he has been more consistent with the bat, starting to score some runs, & very handy back up keeper with wade, over in India. keeps Carters out of the side!
 
As you pointed out it is good to see some good young batsmen making some runs. Hopefully Hill and M.Marsh can have very successful seasons next year.
However, the overall batting standard in sheffield shield is becoming embarrassing and improvement is needed if we are to compete with the likes of England and South Africa.

It's probably 12 months too late for alot of these guys, in terms of constructing a really solid side for the back to back Ashes, but if both are in top nick leading into a winter county season, anything can happen I guess.

I'd expect both to go over and pillage some runs if they are serious about taking their careers forward.
 
Nice to see him finally doing something. He missed the boat given he and Hughes were in the same u19 side. Partly due to Victoria not giving him many games and partly him not doing enough with the minimal opportunities. But always good for the future seeing some young guys performing.

He has shown something in his past few games though. He is building some good form!

Has missed a lot of time due to injury & has taken awhile to regain his confidence. Over the last month he has had scores of 88, 45 n.o. & 54 in first class & list A games, to go with today's 144. Some good signs for the kid. Hopefully he can maintain this form for the remainder of the season.

As for having "missed the boat", at 24 years of age I think there will be a few more boats to catch, particularly with the fragility of the current Australian batting line-up. There is going to be opportunities for young batsmen around the country to put their hand up for higher honours if they can consistently make some runs over the next couple of years.
 
By missed the boat I meant getting into the side alongside Hughes. Obviously he still has a few more boats to catch though.
 
It does show how strong Victoria are at the moment. They have 6 of their best 11 out (if you include McDonald and Holland) and they still manage to find players that can perform. Hopefully he can keep his form up and put a bit of pressure on.
 
It was his first Shield ton, not second. He made his first ton against England in a tour match.

He's had a good month. For me he's an excellent runner between the wickets and has the ability to grind his way through tough periods. He was 6 from 37 and then started to work his way out of a hole, which I found was very impressive.

His driving both down the ground and through the covers is all class. The shot he played down the ground today was spectacular. One of my favourites and I never lost faith in him, and hopefully this will kick him on for the rest of the year

You don't count him, he's been playing grade cricket all summer.
 
He's made one solitary ton against an incredibly mediocre Queensland attack. Hardly earth shattering. I personally thought he was quite fortunate to even represent Victoria in any form, his FC average of 27 after fourteen test matches is abysmal.
 
Hopefully he can carry on with the form into the next few seasons. Hill, Marsh and Burns' centuries over the past week or so show there's at least some talent in the system, but it's no use backing up one good innings with 10 poor ones.

He made 88 in the Ryobi Cup last week, and 45* against the English Lions, I'd say he's starting to hit some form.

He's also averaging 50 in the shield this season, thats 12 more than Khawaja.

Admittedly, he has 2 less 50's than Usman, but one player is in the touring test squad, and one you are debating about even getting selected for a Victorian 1st XI...........

No doubting his talent, he has had a shit run of injuries, if he knocks another ton in the Shield, especially with Victoria looking like going deep in the comp, anything can happen.

He's scored 200 runs in 3 FC matches. That's good form in anybody's book
 
Hill has never been given the chance to develop consistency. The Bushrangers' pensioner programme for batsmen kept him out out of the side for a lot of years, and injuries haven't helped. His chances have mainly been limited to a match here and a match there, which isn't great for a young batsman's confidence.

I've always firmly believed that being given a solid run at first class level would see him really step up. I could never really understand why he didn't ever look to move interstate to a side with more opportunities, although it looks like he's finally getting rewarded for his loyalty.
 
Not that he hasn't had a whole heap of injuries in his career. Oh wait...
