Yes Michael Johnson was injured yesterday and while we all ponder Fyfe being out for a minimun of 8 weeks, we can now add Johnson to that list.

The commentators said that there was an issue with the knee and the medical staff initially didn't know what was wrong.

While this article talks about Fyfe, it is this which concerns me as well

Lyon said another serious injury to defender Michael Johnson added to the “collateral damage” from the loss to Carlton, with the veteran suffering “a significant hamstring tendon tear and a medial ligament as well.”

On Twitter, Jon Ralph has suggested this means Johnson is out for a minimum of 8 weeks.

Annus Horribulus indeed.

Oh no, we are really going to have Peel playing this week.

I honestly think it's time for the great man to retire. One of my favourites but it's becoming hard to watch him get injury after injury. I want him to be able to kick the footy with his kids.

yup, pretty much stuffed from the waist down

He'd have to be in real doubt to go on beyond this year you'd think.

Been having consistent injury issues lately and they're starting to slow him down even when he is available.

What a complete disaster this year has been already. Poor old Johnno...an absolute gun but hard to see him coming back from this. He seems to be falling apart and should think about his long term health. Would have been nice to have Marcus Adams down back as a replacement.

I said at the beginning of the season that Johnno's body was no longer capable of the key half back role. We drafted Collins as a KPD , Silvagni was available early in the season . Johnno should have been doing what he does best and thats not as a KPD but the third man in half back disposer. Same thing last season playing as the key back. Disappointing selection from the coaching panel.

Sorry but I've been calling it for a while, johno has become a liability with his mate ibbo coming out of defence. His kicking is a terrible action and often let's the opposition have time to reach the contest. As soon as his strength (mobility / agility) to attack from defence has been taken away due to hammy / leg issues, he's now a shadow of his former self. Will need a massive H2 to justify another year

19 disposals at 100% efficiency yesterday. Definitely shit with the football.

Silva for Johnson
Deboer for fyfe
Suban for Weller
Ibbo for grey
C.Pearce for sheriden

I think is about right .
If we want to give a Pearce a rest
Maybe hannath for him .:D

No learning bad habits for the kids.

If Hannath plays then we may get investigated for tanking.

69% of the time it works everytime. Anyone can make a stat to support an argument. Tabs had 18 touches also - was his game good?

Johnson is a shadow of former self and needs a massive H2 to justify next season

But I though C.Pearce and co is all first team material all this year. Putting another extra ruck won't be much.

Our backline has been a shambles because they are trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

Shero and Sutty are very similar and it should be one or the other. Neither are great at 1v1 defending and have been left wanting when put against forwards. One should be giving way to a traditional lockdown defender.

Johnson and Ibbo are both good third/loose defenders. Ibbo has never been good on the rebound and lately due to injuries/form neither has Johnson. Rather than tring to fit in both, forcing Johnson to play as a tall defender the MC needs to choose one or the other as our loose man.

Two tall defenders - Dawson and Alex Pearce. However we need to see what Collins is capable of at AFL level. Nobody knew what Alex is capable of util he got AFL games.

Spurr - Jack of all trades, master at none to round us out.

Spurr - Dawson - Ibbo
Sherro - A Pearce - Grey

You're right re: Sutty and Shero. Sutty is by far the better defender so should stay IMO. Sheridan needs to make way for Tucker.

Hughes should replace Jonno and Hill should still float through there to help out.

I haven't seen enough of Collins yet but I suspect he's in the same league as Silva i.e. back up to Dawson and AP. I prefer only two genuine KPD's.

Ibbo needs to play as a pure stopper so is back up to Spurr and Sutty.

Spurr - Dawson - Hughes
Tucker - Pearce - Sutty

People seem to be overlooking the fact Johnson is turning 32 this year. It's quite normal for players his age to start slowing down, or to start being impacted by constant injury worries.

Even if he does return we'll have him for another year or two max, and even then he'd have to be managed carefully, perhaps still missing chunks of the season Macca style through design or misfortune.

It's lucky we've put so much effort into cultivating the next generation of KPP in our team, otherwise we'd be in deep s*** with Johnson/Macca/Pav/Sandi/Dawson/Griffin all gone or about to be gone in the next couple of years, thnx Bond and co.
