I see it differently

Wright IMO would have already made a decision on Voss. Next 8 weeks mean nothing. If rumours are true Wright doesn't rate him at all and feels some major changes are required

My take is he will appoint a new Head of Football asap that is along the sames lines of thinking as him. I bet he already has someone in mind

A lot of work will be done reviewing playing list and possible changes which will be well advanced already

Then come end of year they will both do a search for best coach and assistants etc

That's my take in rest of year
I agree with what you’re saying, isn’t that similar to what I’m saying that we aren’t doing it until the end of the season because we have someone already lined up?

Anything you’ve heard on who has been sought out for the Head of Football role? The only name I’ve seen mentioned at all is Bartel

The only thing I have been told with any certainty is Wright has been meeting with everyone possible for the last few months and has been discussing a number of roles

Apart from that I don't know who or for what

There is a strong feeling from most around the club that Voss will not be coach next year. Almost inevitable now

I imagine it hits a critical mass where the possibility of finishing the contract is obliterated. You'd struggle to replace assistants if the perception is it's only a 12-month job at best, but surely the only skerrick of hope for Voss resides in the option of drastically improving his team? Any potential list changes get harder as higher end trade targets would walk away.

Sounds like something a good head of football would do.

Would you think Longmire has been approached for another role outer than senior coach?
The media said today he doesn’t want to return to football after only one year out.

Also Priestly was extremely non-committal re: Voss next year.

Issue is the best assistants will all be under contract and committed to clubs if we wait that long.

Wright has been talking to people since December last year.
About the only upside of being out of finals contention so early is that we are ahead of many others in preparing for 2026.

Seems ridiculous to let this team just fester and put in another eight horrendous performances. Surely they take action now and allow the process to find the new guy to start as soon as possible. Allows the new coach to also assess the list a bit before the off season.

Is there ever an example of a board, out of touch and disconnected from the football club.

Priestly didnt even have to make a statement on it, and hedge his bets. Why double down

I think the process to find the new guy has already started unofficially - GW would be working behind the scenes sounding out prospective coaches, assistants, HoF etc.

To me Voss was hired on aura, reputation and his past success as captain. And then belief that he was ready after past coaching stints. He does seem like a good people person and motivator. Hence the team started games well, but now it’s probably worn out and there’s only so far motivation and aura can get you. Every behind the scenes vision I’ve seen of him addressing the players he throwbacks to how it was at the successful Lions and he’s experiences and anecdotes from 20 years and trying to tie it in to now and make it relevant. Eventually they’re going to get sick of hearing the past and the eyes will be rolling like ‘here we go again’. So now the credibility seems gone as tactically he is found out, and in turn he’s lost his main strength.

my three criticisms of Voss are

1. In what world does getting rid of a player like Kennendy improve the list - compared to other alternatives just for starters; what did this say abotu real player management competency?
and
2. more importantly- you have failed to mongrelise the team - see piss weak performances

and

3. actually cultivated /participated in a culture where DH statements and culture RUBBISH from Cripps who demarcates team members as 'stars' and the rest ;

OR another example and Harry Mckay preseason statement- "it doesn't matter if we don't in a flag this year"...

these are real insights into the actual team/club culture that dont really line up with good player management...maybe player management is confined to 'stars' - maybe stars a re happy and not everyone else? maybe the underperforming fake stars are Voss's real fail - because the nature of the games played seems a lack of team play - it is obvious when one watches that play is more about individual performance as opposed to a whole of team game style...

I have concluded that I dont like what I have seen - and that is ignoring W/L tbh - it is the manner and nature of team performance that is a serious negative.

Time to clean shop -and part of that might be choosing which 'stars' are actually long term investments in being part of a champion team - and which stars are just irrelevant to that or negative influences.

I have a very different view as to who is a real leader atteh Club as far as players are concerned and who arent. We seem to have devolved back to a split player group back to the chosen ones nonsense.

If a coach cant make a team play as a team nd teh team play for each other for 4 quarters - then they arent a good coach and the team isn't a team.

I suspect both coach and certain fake leaders can go....it is a very tough situation for the Club to be in.

Dont know if anyone caught Daniel Hoyne on SEN tonight. Talking about teams one at a time, start with Carlton and he said
that our ball movement versus Port Adelaide was the fourth fastest this year by any team.
Carlton went from long, down the line, tram track football pre the bye to change of angles, speed on ball after it. It was plain for all to see that the players didn’t have the skills to execute. So the coaches tried changing things, the players couldn't execute. Suggested we may well go back to old faithful v Coll.
The defence rests your honour.
