One TODN? Seriously?

The game day threads are a cesspit of disgraceful, that’s just on here.

There are plenty out there, some like this threat peanut take it to a whole awful level, much like the complete peanut outside gate 3 in the Essendon game

Bear in mind that the article is behind a pay wall, but the message was bad enough that they want to provide extra security for Voss. How many of those people in the game day threads are going to find themselves in the news like this guy? Lumping them all in together is hysteria to the max.

I'm not sure what you expect from game day threads. When someone name calls a player or the coach, we delete it and warn them. 90% are just frustrated observations during a play by play reaction.

It's a bit much querying my factual call about this one reported case doing this specific thing, by trying to equate people in game day threads as bring of a similar ilk.

But I will lay down a challenge to those who feel this way. Report these offending game day posts, and let us know which rule you think they are breaking.

When things are going well at the club, the majority decide the vibe on the boards. When things aren't going well, the same thing applies. Like in politics, those on the extremes ... in this case positive or negative, like one and not the other, while those who rely on results are your swing voters who adjust either way.

I consume a lot of Carlton content. Our game day threads are quite tame.

How many times have you read a death threat made against Michael Voss on here? No one has ever gone that far and I suspect no one ever will.

Given the relentless scrutiny from a new CEO, constant media pressure, the everyday challenges of managing a team, and the increasingly hostile reaction from sections of the supporter base (including threats serious enough to warrant police escorts to his car and security at club and VFL appearances) you have to ask: why would Voss even want to keep coaching at this point?

Also, not a great advertisement for our club for any future prospective coaches.

I don’t believe it’s nonsense at all. Look at Snapper. He’s on 3AW and SEN every week bringing toxic energy .. he’s got a profile for it. He loves the attention. I can name a few of the YouTube crowd who sit in the same boat and they know who they are. The vitriol that comes out of these people’s mouths, they love the sound of their own voice and they have built followings, half these blokes by the looks of them haven’t kicked a footy in anger yet they’re the most vitriolic. I believe this energy is overflowing through the whole fan base now. Believe me I go every week nearly, have done for 25 years, I need to look myself in the mirror and say that I am also part of the problem as I have similar tendencies to get emotional/toxic especially on game day.

It’s not to say we can’t be critical, expect more and be upset with how it’s gone this year but we have to be real with this, 30 years of no real success has turned us into a toxic fan base. This energy has seeped into the club and into the players who when it goes by the wayside can’t handle the pressure this club (and its supporters) heap on them. These are facts and you can see it play out on the ground. Our players look shell shocked and not AFL standard. External energy has a big part to play.
The supporter base will always be a mirror of the club on field. During the run to the prelim, walking with a strut, now it's throw in the towel. Whilst the club continues to make decisions like 'getting after our defence ' in the off season, with no consideration to the other end of the ground, we aren't going anywhere. Looking forward to some intelligent change.

We're collectively responsible for creating an environment free of toxicity, where threats like that become less likely. Criticism of the club is fine and definitely warranted, but some of the vitriol and personal attacks directed against staff, players and other supporters is not on.

I heard about the Voss threat on channel nine news this morning.

I cant believe how someone (a supposed fan) would get this riled up over footy.

Its an entertainment industry, ffs!

Not a good look at all for Carlton as a whole.

I don't think I've every heard this type of a threat towards a coach in afl before?

Witnessed it (threat) first hand first time directed at Pagan as he was leaving the box after our 100+ shellacking against North one day.

Media: Poor Michael Voss. The supporters want him sacked.

Also media: Michael Voss needs to be sacked. He’s crap at coaching.
Agreed.

Almost every media article I've read are snippets or summaries of points covered on here in BF.

Prior to joining BF I used to look for these types of articles on my morning commutes and read every word.

Now I just read the title and in most cases I can accurately predict the content without reading through the article.

Journalism has become way too easy now with so much online content on just about any topic.

Just ridiculous

Appalled and disgusted to hear of alleged threats to Voss. People putting out crap like this need to take a look at themselves, and get some perspective in life.

It’s a sporting club where these people do their best in the circumstances (and Voss is a stand up man and has maintained his composure and dignity throughout), so regardless of the way Team performance is playing out, the personal attacks are low, cowardly dogs acts. The same goes for all the potting of Lloyd - do the faceless pot-shotters know this guy or anything about how he does his work?

(I don’t know them myself), and no doubt, it may be time for some changes at the club for next season, and that will happen, but
this small minority who get this nasty are taking it beyond sport and the business of football and makes me ashamed as a Carlton supporter. Remember we used to laugh at the pathetic behaviour of tigers supporters…?

I’m not saying I’m perfect and have never cursed some bad play or clangers or whatever, but this stuff is way beyond, and hopefully they’re embarrassed and can send in an apology

Coaches situations can be a little like school teachers these days.

I know of many situations where teachers getting caught up between the school headmaster (not wanting any parent complaints directed at the school) and parents who can get abusive because they don't accept their kids are playing up at school, not listening, not doing their work etc.

Players talk a lot in locker rooms and they can easily make coaches look bad.

In Pagans case - How can he win 2 flags at one club and then be a total disaster after joining another club?

Same with MM - How can he win 3 flags at other clubs and be a total disaster after joining our club?

It doesn't make sense and to me its looking more and more like something is not right at our club.

It’s a small minority. As a whole, I’d say the opposite. As a supporter base we are too passive and compliant. We should be demanding change and a clean out of the club after 30 years of failure.

I have no idea what the message was but if it's bad enough they've had to beef up security, that's putrid.

This is a game. Yes we'd like to win more, to enjoy more. It's still just a game.

Absolutely no one should ever have to feel threatened from doing their job in this sport. It's not like he's deliberately trying to sabotage us.

Further more re. all this toxic behaviour and mediocre performance - in the whole big picture, the performance present and recent up to two decades, is a reflection on the characters on the Board

Social media forums are rife with keyboard warriors “venting” in any toxic way they like.

Football goes deeper than entertainment, especially for those on here, it’s part of our personal fabric & identity.

When out club doesn’t perform, we feel disappointed & humiliated - that brings the anger.

Forums like this offer the chance to vent - it can be & often is pretty ugly.

No doubt we have a mix of trolls from other clubs masking as CFC supporters stoking the fire - but we have a fair number of home grown trolls also.

The media knows it & feeds off it & contributes to it.

We say our football club owes us something - it’s a shame we rarely think about what we owe to our club.

Paying a membership is just the start.

Imagine if we swelled behind our team in support when times are hard…

How could CFC supporters better support?

Can't say I agree with that sentiment.

What more do we owe to our club? Just personally, I've been a paid up member for over 15 years while living in Sydney, I'm lucky to get to 1 game a year.

I have kitted out my two boys in memberships and guernseys.

I have watched us get the snot kicked out of us for the last 20 years. And I continue to pay my memberships and emotionally invest.

What else do they want from me?

Whether a minority or not, it's a collective responsibility. There is no place for toxicity and it needs to be called out.

I largely agree with this as it does pose some self-reflection and awareness that we supporters could do.

I just want to point something out that has been on my mind for a while. Not directed at you.

The club is not the the people, or things down at ikon park, the intangibles, the culture, etc.
The Club is the fans. The board, coaches, staff, players, all come and go. The constant is the fans. We are the club.
And it dovetails into what you are saying i believe.

At the same time, the players, coaches, staff, also need to be able to connect better with us, understand us, and align with us, serve us nearly. There is a clear disconnect between fans and the inner 4-walls.

It goes without saying that, people within the 4-walls would have much more information and have a much better view to be able to make decisions and we as fans need to trust them and support them because we only get to see the output but none of the input. We also need to hold then to account at the same time, because we are entrusting them to administer our club on behalf of us.

It's one of the reasons why an decision Wright for example comes to I will support (regardless if I think I am right or wrong), how can I logically argue with someone that has been reviewing every little aspect for months and months now, where I only see a small (yet important) outcome.

I watched the whole of the Diogo Jota story on the weekend (so sad) but in his interview on the day he signed for Liverpool, he was asked what it meant to him. His response was simple:

The supporters will know that I will bring the minimum requirement to wear this jersey and play for this club.

I am Liverpool fan and have been there many times to watch. It's an honor for these players to play for the club because of its history and supporter base.

Our boys just don't have the same passion, here in lies the difference and our biggest problem...

Exactly, stop the kiddie tantrums and behave like adults. If it’s affecting your rational thoughts and blood pressure then maybe just take a hiatus for a bit.

I agree the club represents us & owes us a level of competency & performance.

Most supporters live solely in that “reality”.

When things are working the support builds - huge attendance, membership grows, even to the point of supporters swelling training attendance numbers.

When things aren’t working, supporters separate & blame - attendance drops & online vitriol builds.

The media feeds & off it goes.

It’s a shame our supporter group doesn’t get behind the club in difficult times.

The club is trying to remove the “outside” emotion rightly, managing change in a pragmatic, rather than emotional way.

So supporters & club couldn’t be further apart at the moment.

Very true.
We can certainly do better and that self reflection as a group is definitely required.
It's probably more a reflection or window into greater society - "When things are working the support builds" - "When things aren’t working, supporters separate & blame". We can do better.

I think the connection of supporters and the inner 4-walls needs to be nurtured and maintained in balance throughout the good and bad times.

It's where I see channels like BlueAbroad stepping up and unifying groups and supporters. I would like to see our cheersquad be more proactive in this regard they certainly have a great platform and opportunity, opening up dialogue, representing the fans, in good times and bad. Unifying the club. That alignment between fans and in the inner 4-walls.

Perhaps its a leadership aspect, stronger leadership across the board (not the CFC board i mean) fans, players, staff a like. It's all very fragmented, siloed, and i think that allows for that vitriol to build.
