A 12 year old hacked to death with a machete on Saturday Night. Unbelievable. No one can argue that youth crime is not soaring in this state.
It's pretty crook stuff. I know it's not just a Victorian thing but when did kids start getting their hands on machetes. I've never seen one. Also I have a son who is a teenager. Him and his mates don't own a machete nor break into houses etc.

So if I shoot a criminal holding a gun walking down the corridor towards my child, is that a good enough reason? And no he doesn’t have to scream “ I’m going to kill your kids”. He is breaking into a home with a weapon, you have a right to defend your family and home without worrying about consequences. You decide to break into another persons home, you give up most of your rights
Yes, that would be fine. You can use proportional force. If a kid enters your home with no weapon, you can’t shoot them. If a big burly bloke enters with a machete, then you may be able to.

As someone who owns a few firearms it worries me that people don’t understand this.

Probably when the government decided to bring in refugees from war torn African nations. Pretty obvious where the ones running around with machetes come from. Anyway state the bleeding obvious you will get shouted down by the usual BF crew.

So actual youth crime is higher (alleged) but the amount of offenders hasn't really changed in the past decade. It's actually less now than it was.

Without putting my data scientist hat on - I'd say that this suggests that a different approach to preventing repeat offending is required.

What about these

Yeah, it's called instead of letting repeat offenders out on bail the same day as their crime, you put them in and adult jail for 10 years and then make them report to a police station twice a week for the next 2 years after their release

Bail is important.

But like most things in life, there's a sweet spot.

Clearly in Victoria at the moment, in regards to repeat offenders, they've missed the sweet spot.

They've gone pretty hard now. Victorian bail laws place the burden on an accused person to demonstrate why they should be released, making it more difficult to get bail. Recent changes in 2025 introduced the nation's toughest measures for serious repeat offenders, requiring stricter tests to get bail and increasing penalties for breaching bail conditions. These laws also affect youth offenders, making detention less of a last resort for children

What about these
What about these! Both incidents shows that youth crime is out of control with a lot of weapons being used. News today had your second incident at Northland being the same group responsible for the attack on those 2 young teenagers. Reading the herald sun the lead article has African parents sending their kids back to African nations for school as it’s safer for them then Melbournes violent streets. If that’s the case we have totally lost control.

F'wits get locked up, the rest learn how to function in a secular and lawful society. I saw some terrible things as a youth, that were just as bad as these, and that was 25 years ago. They also had nothing to do with Africans.

You hear about these things because they want you to.

What about them? The first one is African and the second one doesn't give enough information and the photos don't show enough

if a gang breaks into ur house in the middle of the night you should have the immediate right to use deadly force.
We live in a state of anarchotyranny where the native law abiding citizens are persecuted by the government for defending themselves or minor trivial issues, whereas violent and often foreign criminals are given slaps on the wrist and granted bail only to offend time and time again. The government likes it this way so they can justify more draconian laws to use against their own citizens while the nation falls further into a state of disarray, they'll sooner lock up vigilantes or those using deadly force to protect their own family than they will these animals, many of whom shouldn't even be here.

I'm not burly so if I came over you'd be required by law to provide me a beer and half a pizza.
