Damn it.
Don't mean damn it to the fact that we won't trade Dids or Presti BUT..from the way he said it, it sounds like we probably won't get Stevens.

Our current list won't win us a flag. It will get us close like the last 2 years has shown, but when it comes to that last little crunch that seperates a good team from premiers, we fail to deliver.

We need some class and/or matchwinners. We have enough of the hard-working brigade. Tough decisions need to be made. Come on pies, enough of this pussyfooting around. Make some tough decisions recruiting staff.

Probably a good thing not to trade Didak. But I hate the word 'potential'. An ugly word. That's the only reason we aint trading him. If he was 3-5 years older and still playing the way he is now, he would be tradebait to get Stevens. It's the only fact that he is still seen as young and has 'potential' that is keeping him off the plane to Port. (Despite the fact this was his 3rd year and he still hasn't had more than 21 touches in a match) Despite the potential and all that, if you were judging Didak and Stevens up against eachother right now today, Stevens would easily come out on top.

Before Pie fans jump at me I have never said once in this post that we SHOULD trade Didak. In fact I said "it is probably a good thing not to trade him", but im just thinking aloud and sick of the fact that the recruiting staff and Malthouse seem to be content with the crop as it is. Again, THE CURRENT CROP WILL GET US CLOSE AS WE HAVE SEEN, BUT WILL NOT WIN US A FLAG. End of rant.

They should offload Didak (inconsistent forward) for Stevens in heartbeat

Stevens avergaed 24 possessions a game this season. Stick him in the Collingwood midfield and its trouble for 14 other teams (not Brisbane though)


The Pies severely overrate Didak, and it will cost them a gun onballer

Doesn't happen often but I actually agree with you here. Buckley, Licuria, Woewodin and Stevens would make a pretty decent midfield.

Thats what we must have Pie fan. I respect Mick more thatn anyone in football and im sure he has something up his sleeev he always does. Everyone is talking about Stevens being the man we need. Sure they would make our chances a hell of a lot bigger but you must remember our average playing age is 22-23 Didak will become a class midfielder mark my words. A great example is Holland sure he aint Stevens standard but an example of how Mick will use Alan gradually bringing im into the midfield. Mark my words he will be atop midfielder in a few years.

port will crack towards the end of trade week. All the other teams realise that they will be able to get him quite cheaply. 1 first round draft pick is all port will get! That was my prediction a while ago and i stick by it. And it wont necessarily be a high pick either.

What role does Stevens play? Outside midfielder. Will there be any space for him out wide with Yze, Johnstone, Armstrong, McDonald and co.

Be quite funny to see everyone calling for it and no one to get it to them.

Mark Williams can bleat all he likes about 2 first round picks or first rounder and a player. Stevens wants to leave, so Port will take what they are given, or else Stevens goes in the draft to the Dogs for nothing.

Here's how I see it:

Carlton - would have to trade pick #2 - stupid if they do. Alternatively no. 2 pick in preseason draft.

Essendon - having lots of salary cap trouble. How do they fit Stevens in, given that you would pay him more than Solomon if he leaves.

Melbourne - best chance, provided they trade pick #5 and Stevens actually wants to go there.

Hawthorn - ditto Melbourne, 1st rounder is lower pick however.

Collingwood - he might want to go there, so 1st round pick on Friday afternoon with clock ticking might do it.

Conclusion - Melbourne.
