Win, lose or draw.. Mick Malthouse has done wonders for our club over the past decade. We wouldn't be in the position we are in today if it weren't for him. I was surprise when i didn't find an appreciation thread for everything he has done for the black and white.

  • The man has coached us to 7 out of a possible 11 final series.

  • 3rd most wins as coach (all time).
  • 2nd (all time) most games coached at AFL/VFL level.
  • 2nd longest serving coach of the Collingwood FC behind Jock McHale.
  • Collingwood premiership coach 2010

Thank you for all the memories Mick and thank you for bringing the success to the club that you have brought. God i hope we win this week to give the great man the farewell he deserves!

Jeeze J5 put it away before you frighten the natives :D

Seriously though Mick has done a fine job but its far from a one man trick here, It was Eddie that set the ball rolling and Hinesy and Butters were indispensable.

Well done Mick, thanks for the flag/s and good luck in your future endeavors :thumbsu:

Since he has become coach we have missed out in playing finals just three times and has made going for Collingwood much more fun than going for most other teams. Taken the side to 5 GFs and got us a flag we have been w8ing for, for so long. I will miss Mick alot but I wish him all the best for his future and would like to thank him for what he has given for the best sporting club in Australia. Thank You Mick!

I felt he overachieved early on getting us to the grand final before we were due, but wow we were close to winning back then. It wasn't until last year he finally had a talented team across all lines to work with, which a lot of that is thanks to the recruiting staff. Great coach, has always got the best out of the players and got the team playing a good team game. Hopefully he goes out with another win!

When Eddie wheeled him out in a Volvo, the rest of the competition began to take us seriously again.

I shared a table with him and Christy at the A.O members lounge in January, and I was rapt to be able to shake his hand, congratulate him, and thank him in person for everything he had done for our club.

When he took over as coach, we had just won our second wooden spoon in the history of this great club, and after 12 seasons, with the help of many, he has restored this club back to where it belongs, on top.:thumbsu:

If we win this weekend, and send Mick out in style, the man will go down as the second greatest coach in this clubs grand history, and will even be mentioned in the same breath as the great Jock McHale.

In 50 years time, the name Mick Malthouse will be spoken about with awe and legend, but to make the story complete we have to win.

I have absolutely no doubts about it, that if at 3/4 time Mick asks for one more grand effort from his players, they will destroy the Cats in that final term, and we will come out on top.

If we can hold on, or even lead at 3/4 time, we will win, you just know it.

Mick Malthouse deserves our respect, our gratitude and our support, and whatever decision he makes over the next few weeks, he is now, and forever will be a Collingwood great.:)

Yeah THREE CHEERS for Mick

Hip Hip Hooray Hip Hip Hooray Hip Hip Hooray

Thanks very much for all you have done for the Collingwood Football Club. And more importantly thank you for all you have done for "the boys"

We the fans wish you all the best in your new role.

Your tireless efforts will be long remembered.

I just know a Collingwood game day is just not going to be same without you :D

Last week Malthouse went past Phonse Kyne to be the coach of the Magpies' 2nd most finals.

21 finals so far with a 13-7-1 record. Putting it into context, he has coached us to more finals with more wins (and at a better strike rate) than Bomber Thompson did at Geelong over essentially the same period.

14 finals wins (at Collingwood) would match the number of wins from Matthews at Brisbane, Parkin at Carlton, Jeans at Hawthorn and Pagan at North Melbourne.

In terms of overall finals wins, Mick sits alone only behind the great Jock McHale. Unless of course, the Pies win, and then they would sit level on 27, which would be the crowning achievement on a great career.

All of the coaches mentioned in above got these teams two premierships at the clubs mentioned, and what better way for a coach to go out than with an emphatic exclamation mark on what has been a fantastic coaching performance, particularly when having to deal with the draft, inflated salary caps, and in the case of WCE, an unfair burden of interstate travel.

I've not always been Mick's biggest fan (some may disagree with me there) but what I've always appreciated about teams he has coached is they invariably bring their best when it counts most. And his teams have always had honesty and integrity at the heart of it all. Players he coached have saved footy clubs (Kennedy at the Dogs), coached a flag (Worsfold and no doubt more to come), and been fine upstanding members of the footy community.

Collingwood over the past decade have been a pleasure to watch and support, and purely as a sports fan, and I will certainly miss his influence in the future.

Come on Magpie Machine, one more performance, even if it is just for the coach!

Brilliantly articulated post.:thumbsu::thumbsu:
I can only echo your respect for Mick and the great integrity he has bestowed on the club and engendered in those he influenced.

If the mighty Pies happen to get over the line this week, the players should take it upon themselves to actually take turns in 'Chairing' Malthouse around the MCG for one last time. It would be both symbolic and a great token of their appreciation.
The current list would not have the success that they now enjoy had it have been another mere mortal at the helm. In saying this, I wish Nathan Buckley all the best in trying to fill the massive void left by Malthouse. Because as good as Buckley was as a player, he, nor anybody else for that matter will fill the shoes left behind. Back to back Premierships would be just enough to repay the debt the club owes this great leader of men.

GO GET 'EM PIES!!!

I would like to extend my congratulations to Mick. He's a super super coach, and when he was with West Coast, it was one of the best periods of the club, I think. Needless to say, he's done the same with Collingwood.

Mick, I salute you.
