How was Cas kicking for goals and filed kicks yesterday??

Well he only had 4 kicks for 1.0 straight.

Was moved to the backline for a bit, as we're struggling without Jamo. Naysayers have been saying he can't play there but in a day we should have lost by 20 goals, he didn't look too bad. I think he reads the play okay.

Stuart Dew or Nathan Bassett would be a good replacement for MM, someone young and someone who's actually caught on to a modern game plan that doesn't involve long kicking to boundary contests... Although it's not all MM's fault, he still needs to go, players are crap but even more so under him.. They don't wanna play for him its as simple as that, but please don't come out monday morning and say we're fully behind him, do they take us for idiots? The worst thing about this is that it could get worse, haven't played port/haw/syd or freo yet, that is a day I'm dreading!!

If Mick stays he should lose some control over his assistant coach choices. He can't keep bringing in his guys to be yes men. Review all of them.

You look at our assistants and wonder .... which one would I be happy to have as caretaker coach if Mick went? There are no standouts is there?

Whether we keep him or not it's going to make no difference as he's not the problem, we've got one of the leagues worst list. A team that relies on some aging B graders and past stars to carry it with not a lot of young talent and no real high end young talent apart from Cripps. May as well keep him, we're a long term project, but this would need to be reviewed at the end of the season. If the feel amongst the playing group is poor towards Malthouse he may have to go otherwise he should stay.

Collingwood held firm and didn't sack him in 2004/5 and when they were in vaguely the same position we are now and they were rewarded. I just feel that we should do the same. The only real difference Collingwood were further advanced at this stage in their rebuild despite finishing 13th and 15th respectively.

We're rebuilding and have been since Mick arrived, this generally comes with a bit of down time, we're currently in the middle of the down time (look up the success story of all successful AFL teams, do it! There is some downtime).

Why on earth are people expecting us to be any good? That I don't get. This is all part of the process. I still get the feeling that only Carlton is bad enough to make a good coach fail and dumb enough to sack a good coach when he's not the problem. You would hope common sense prevails here, you would hope we're smart enough to see that the coach is not the issue and that our decisions in the past is why we're hurting now.

Stick with what we've got put our head down and arse up and get stuck into this rebuild.

The one shot he managed to get after a very good mark was straight as a die. No issues at all.

His field kicking was never the issue.

If the applicant for the job cannot show some passion for success, then he isn't going to get the gig anyway so I wouldn't be making a fuss about "bleeding for the jumper".

If "bleeding for the jumper" was the main prerequisite for getting the job then we would be seriously limiting the field of possible applicants to only past players which would end up being even more disastrous than where we are right now.

Blatantly obvious he has improved his grip, ball drop and his confidence in 2 weeks, my question is WTF was happening with his development in these areas for the past 4 years or more ???

First two years on the list were a series of knee injuries... and I suspect a bit of lost confidence because of it. Then he probably had people telling him that he needed to change his kicking action to compensate for any potential lose of movement in his knees. By that time, Barker and Green were doing their thing and have seemed to be more interested in coaching the small forwards than in coaching and helping out the big guys.

Now he has Sav to help him out and in 2 weeks appears to have corrected 4 years worth of detritus in his kicking action.

Mick took Collingwood from last to consecutive grand finals within 3 years. Yes, it was a false dawn but I'd take that kind of false dawn. It gives hope if you can see a coach can make a lesser list play above themselves and come within 9 points of a flag. For us to have that same faith, we will have 3 years of failure to draw on and point to achievements at Collingwood, not here.

The differences are far more pronounced than you think.

What does our great & illustrious leader do .......... rewards them time & time again for mediocrity, no-one from the 'select' group gets dropped regardless of how badly they play.

I would say thats more the club and the "rich benefactors" playing god with the match selection committee.

Either that or there are some accountants somewhere saying that we need to play player x because we are paying him Y and we need to get out money out of him.

Port Adelaide reached outside its own base for the first time in a long time to bring in Ken Hinkley who had never been associated with Port, and it worked out quite well for us. He understood the culture we wanted right away.

I don't think the issue is whether they're from Carlton, it's whether they have any drive and vision for the future, which I'm not sure Malthouse does at the tail end of his career. He may have experience but he doesn't seem particularly driven by wanting to make history.
