Weekend Wrap and "Liked, Learned, Hated" right here -- How did tipping go?
Sakc MLo!
Ah yes forgot about the knee injuries, would certainly have impacted confidence and power but didn't he have serious issues with technique and ball drop prior to the knee injuries also, Rookie year, TAC Cup etc ??First two years on the list were a series of knee injuries... and I suspect a bit of lost confidence because of it. Then he probably had people telling him that he needed to change his kicking action to compensate for any potential lose of movement in his knees. By that time, Barker and Green were doing their thing and have seemed to be more interested in coaching the small forwards than in coaching and helping out the big guys.
Now he has Sav to help him out and in 2 weeks appears to have corrected 4 years worth of detritus in his kicking action.

Carlton has gone backwards with MM. You would have been far better off with Ratts than MM.
Team is just a rabble now and nothing will change with him.
Get rid of him and put a Carlton man back in.
certainly more entertaining to watch at the moment!!Make no mistake, the Wagga Wagga under 15s are a very, very good football side

Doubt that if MM was replaced now, that would be the definitive long term coach. Caretaker roles are not ideal. Hinkley started rd 1 did he not, or did he start after a sacking?Port Adelaide reached outside its own base for the first time in a long time to bring in Ken Hinkley who had never been associated with Port, and it worked out quite well for us. He understood the culture we wanted right away.
I don't think the issue is whether they're from Carlton, it's whether they have any drive and vision for the future, which I'm not sure Malthouse does at the tail end of his career. He may have experience but he doesn't seem particularly driven by wanting to make history.
Nah... despite what people joke about his kicking in the TAC... the guy still managed to kick 41.14 for his TAC year. In his rookie years, they had him playing ruck and in the forward lines... hence the knee injuries (PCL injuries I think they were... the ruckmans injury).Ah yes forgot about the knee injuries, would certainly have impacted confidence and power but didn't he have serious issues with technique and ball drop prior to the knee injuries also, Rookie year, TAC Cup etc ??
Hope our "handcuff to chair" drills were not the cause of poor technique and confidence.....![]()
Mick took Collingwood from last to consecutive grand finals within 3 years. Yes, it was a false dawn but I'd take that kind of false dawn. It gives hope if you can see a coach can make a lesser list play above themselves and come within 9 points of a flag. For us to have that same faith, we will have 3 years of failure to draw on and point to achievements at Collingwood, not here.
The differences are far more pronounced than you think.
Okay, so we sack Mick.
Who are we going to replace him with?
Eddie Betts, Jeff Garlett & Jarrad Waite.... FFS Mick saying we didnt have the cattle when he is basically responsible for all of these guys leaving.
What really needs to change at Carlton along with the coach is the culture. We need a coach whos gonna come in and instil the right attitude for players to follow. Tough and uncomprimising. Someone not afraid to weild the axe. Someone who demands excellence and wont settle for anything less.
Brett Kirk could be this man. Stewy Dew could be this man. Leigh Tudor could be this man.
The fact we are letting MM stay simply means SOS wants us to tank to ensure we get pick #1
What Mick has done is created the following:
Because of his refusal to drop any of the established players no matter how poor their form is, he has focused all our omission changes between our fringe players and our young and up and coming players.
He has created an atmosphere where our fringe players and our young players are being rotated in and out of the team on just a week's performance, sometimes just even 15 minute performances as happened with Graham last match.
This results in the above players being concerned about worrying about only about their own performance against their direct opponent to the detriment of the entire team.
Look at White yesterday, he was not even a metre from Cameron but had no intention of tackling him, instead he ran straight past Cameron to focus on his own man which left Cameron the space to snap a gaol. The reason he did this was because White was trying to save his own skin, as long as its not his own man that kicked the goal, then he wouldn't be in the firing line to be dropped the week after.
MM needs to tell sit these players down and tell them that they will get a run of 6 or so games in a row and won't be dropped no matter how badly they perform. At least this will free up these players to do the team things without worrying that they will be punished for leaving their direct opponent to help out team mate.
So you think we are in a position to decide whether to win or not?
There is another option... the club has already reached an agreement with a replacement coach and have reached an agreement with Mick that Mick coaches out the remainder of the year.
It could be that all the bullshit we are seeing with selections is a requirement of the new coach. He wants to see what sort of experienced core of players we have first and then play the kids in the latter half of the year to assess them.
The unfortunate side effect of this is that the players have lost confidence in the club because of this and it is affecting their performances on the field.
I have no doubt if we sacked MM and gave the reigns to one of the assistants we would get an improvement that would enable us to win a handful of games, if we continue as we are then we wont win again in 2015. we are a much better side on paper than Stkilda, Brisbane, Melbourne and even the dogs yet we are playing the worst football of anyteam by a long way.
No we're not better on paper because they have more youth coming through and more effort in their sides. Hard work is an attribute and we have precious little.
Personally, if we get more wins and free up the players minds and motivation a little bit, it will have a greater effect on our psyche than a #1 draft pick. We can't go the rest of the season with supporters bailing and players psychologically wondering if they should leave or if they are good enough.
