If we talk nice to him and rub him on the head, could get him excited about coming over. The ongoing jokes would be too much to bare. Poor kid

If Rod Ali really was the player we were most interested in, I think our interest will have dwindled after Saturday, as he's probably too much of a 'project player' at this stage. I think there's a genuine chance we won't take anyone, rather than just taking someone for the sake of it.The word was that we are interested in Rod Ali but after watching him on the weekend, he looks a rookie pick at best

Yeah, that was only due to shrinking list sizes to cope with smaller salary caps in that period, IIRC.Ta. Thanks for clarifying.
Maybe I’m thinking back to Covid days when no delist/redraft necessary?!?
Takes me back to 2023 when that Faulkhead guy was around. There's a mid season prospect called Corey Grocock. I don't even know where to start with that one

Were the letters VFL on that medal?I had a dream and saw Freddy with a medal around his neck!
Or was it a brace..? Now that I think about it, I can’t be sure.
There's probably an element of untapped potential here that people are thinking of. McMahon had years in an AFL environments to develop into this kind of a player, whereas Mason did not.In the thread over on the Drafts & Trading board about the MSD, someone in response to Jen pointing out Riley Mason's 17 goals in 6 games, pointed out that Liam McMahon had kicked 14 goals in 4 games.
It piqued my curiosity to compare the two, and I was surprised to see that Liam McMahon is younger than Riley Mason. He's a better athlete and a better kick than Riley... Is there any validity to the idea that he might still be the better prospect?
If you like Liam McBean, you'll like Liam McMahon, except McBean is much better. Having watched my share of Carlton VFL games over the last couple of years, I would just forget McMahon. In the thread over on the Drafts & Trading board about the MSD, someone in response to Jen pointing out Riley Mason's 17 goals in 6 games, pointed out that Liam McMahon had kicked 14 goals in 4 games.

It's entirely possible that that's true - I just feel like it's an interesting point worth discussing. There's probably an element of untapped potential here that people are thinking of. McMahon had years in an AFL environments to develop into this kind of a player, whereas Mason did not.
I would imagine that the thinking is that were Mason exposed to such an environment, he would be able to develop into a player McMahon has not been able to.
My point wasn't really that Liam McMahon is awesome - It was more of a caution about getting overly excited about Riley Mason, or being worried that we might "miss out" on him. A player who's slightly younger and more productive is being written off as an undesirable prospect by most people. If you like Liam McBean, you'll like Liam McMahon, except McBean is much better. Liam McMahon was ridiculously skinny when he first got drafted, so it's not necessarily surprising that he was coming from a long way back and has taken a while to become consistently productive at state league level.
Maybe if McMahon hadn't have been drafted, and had instead gone off to some country league where he could've kicked huge bags at 22 before ever playing VFL, he could be presenting with the exact same traits and the exact same level of production, and we'd all be losing our shit over him. Instead he's yesterday's news and the presumption is he's got nothing in the tank.
But I look at a guy like Podsiadly who had multiple cracks with teams in the AFL before going back and playing VFL, and it turned out he actually did have the skill level required in the end.

He sure is. Josh Browne too, which is they the club invited them down to train with the afl squad. They are keeping an eye on themI'm not sure mason is in our thinking though.

The club wants to keep promoting through the vfl program.
I'm sure that any player who was a chance of getting picked up by any club (not just by us) would be heavily promoted and encouraged to succeed. A rising tide raises all ships - Getting players drafted from our VFL club only improves our ability to recruit quality players into our program, and like it has this year, that pays dividends with our reserve side actually being good, and therefore being a good development environment for our listed players. He sure is. Will he? He is so skinny and already 23. Just wonder how his body strength will be against AFL key defendersMason will be gone by our pick, im guessing itll be a Key defender and if we get a 2nd pick then Browne as well
Browne’s kicking a concern. Definitely a good runnerJosh Brown would be my choice
I have Mason ahead of Browne IF both where availableJosh Brown would be my choice
I don't think he'd suit us - we like a strong physical contest from our tall forwards. But I think there will be clubs keen. Potential to do what Langford does for the Dons. Will he? He is so skinny and already 23. Just wonder how his body strength will be against AFL key defenders
IMO I think we probably asked him to play for our VFL side to test whether he had the capacity to transition into AFL, and he's shown enough to say that he could be a decent role player for us. However, I think we'd only pick him up if we had 2 picks, because if we only have the one it will likely go towards a Key Defender.I don't think he'd suit us - we like a strong physical contest from our tall forwards. It's hard to know if we treat VFL recruiting in terms of what we think they can offer the VFL team or whether we're essentially trialling them for AFL potential.IMO I think we probably asked him to play for our VFL side to test whether he had the capacity to transition into AFL, and he's shown enough to say that he could be a decent role player for us. In any case it's a real credit to Riley that we're discussing him, seeing as it's only his first season in the VFL, good on him!
Jen said yesterday that we are interested in him. I think we could be but I doubt he's higher on our list than a couple of others. I personally don't think he'll get picked up at all. Unfortunately, I have to emphasise that this is just my opinion and based on nothing really. Hopefully I don't have to dodge bullets for the rest of the day but that's the way I see it.I don't think he'd suit us - we like a strong physical contest from our tall forwards.
