I still think we can go on a run now like win 7-9 more games

I have done the ladder predictor a couple of times and it had us coming in at 7th twice. I wasn't overly generous with wins either, this season is odd though.

i think you need a minimum of 14 wins to make finals. that means we need 9 more wins. who do people think we will beat to get the 9 wins?
In a season where everyone is so even you would likely need even less then average wins, and better percentage. Not more.

i think its different to previous years as there no clear distinction between the top 4, theyre dropping games here and there to teams around the 8, which means you will need more to make 8th

did the ladder predictor again and i was 1 off. 13 games to be sure, otherwise % as sverik has said:

That's why we need to stop dropping our heads late in games and getting blown away. Those percentages hurt later on.

Perhaps if the top 8 were just themselves even but still dominant over the bottom 10 but at this rate there's barely a bottom 4.

Yes I can and I just said it. How did it help us yesterday? Or the week before?
Gee, I dunno, the clearance count, perhaps.

Let me guess, clearances -- particularly from stoppages -- don't matter either?

Sorry but did it help us I'm a stat I find reasonably important and that's winning. No is the answer. Didn't have to post any stats to show us that. Well at least we can maybe make the clearance finals now. By the way have a look at melbournes hit outs to clearances. Shows ow hit outs mean jack. Anyway can't wait until September when we are in the clearance final. See you then

What a petty response.

One of the fundamentals of the game is to win clearances and get the ball out of congestion.

Of course, you know more than any existing coach on the planet. Who'd have thought it?

I know that we have clearly a worse record when Longer plays than Hickey. Thats all I need to know. And my initial statement was correct. It hasnt helped us at all. And how many times do I have to say I and everyone here no stuff all compared to our coaches. Doesnt mean Id rather Longer rucking. I hope you never disagree with our coaching panel because that woud mean you know more than an existing coach on the planet. Of course thats not a very emotive statement. See you in September. They could probably play 4 or 5 games on a ground at once. We just throw it up and see who clears the ball. Wont need a lot of room. Should be fun to watch.

It's not about Longer. Keep banging that drum hoping someone listens.

It's about hit-outs generating clearances.

Clearances being a fundamental part of the game that's coached over the entirety of the sport.

If you can't see that the last two games broke down due to poor ball use after those clearances, then I can't take any of your opinions seriously.

'But, but, we can make it into the turnover finals'. Am I doing it right?

Whatever the coaching panel have put in place for this season, it's broken, it is even affecting some player's games, and they have two weeks to fix it!.

As we're at our mid season bye I thought I'd tally up my votes for my own best and fairest. Each game I give 5 votes to the best player down to 1 for the 5th best. People may not necassarily agree but this is what the leaderboard looks like after 10 rounds.

Seb ross- 27 votes
Jack Steven- 17
Jack billings- 16
Dylan Roberton- 14
Jimmy Webster- 12
Jack newnes- 11
Nick Riewoldt- 10
Leigh Montagna- 10
Jack Steele- 9

Carlisle and Nathan brown are hot on jack steeles feet, with both probably having a better year then Montagna in my opinion but Montagna has just had a couple of big vote getting games. Ross the clear standout this year in my opinion which reflects in the voting. Jack Steven doesn't look himself this year and can be tagged out of games to easily. Billings best games have been as good as anyone but still has the odd shocker, like 16 disposals against the dogs. Robertons first 6-7 games were outstanding but since Webster has gone down he is not having the same impact. Real shame about jimmy because he was having a breakout year and could of easily been in our top 3 best players. Newnes has been super consist as always. Jack Steele has been positive and hardly played a bad game. Here's my thoughts on each players year so far.

1- tom hickey: (inj) was getting beaten comprehensively in the ruck before he went down. Still my preferred no.1 ruckman. 5/10

2-jake Carlisle: started the year slowly but his last month has seen him start get back to his intercepting best. Hopefully has a big second half of the year. 7/10

3- jack Steven: lung injury looks to have impacted his explosive best running capacity. Has played some good football but can go missing to easily if tagged. 6/10

4- jade Gresham: struggling to find a lot of the football and hasn't been at he's dynamic side stepping best but has still managed to kick 14 goals and has been our most consistent forward. Needed the bye to come. 6/10

5- Shane savage: not in our best 22 imo. Poor defensively and while his kicking is supposed to be his biggest weapon, butchers the footy to much. 3/10

6- Seb ross: outstanding. Has single handledly carried us through games throughout the year and is arguably our best player now. Finds a lot of the ball and makes good decisions. He looks like he has a burst of pace now also. 9/10

7- luke dunstan: disappointing season for luke. Thought he might find his form again after a big preseason running but looks to have gone backwards and terribly down on confidence. 4/10

8- Blake acres: still does the odd thing that makes you scratch your head and question his decision making but overall has been a consistent season for Blake who has played some good footy. 7/10

9-jack Steele: good addition to our midfield who loves to tackle and pressure. Looks a bit one paced at times but we seem to have found a 10 year player. 7/10

11- Leigh Montagna: best footy has past him. Plays a defensive sweeping role but doesn't have a defensive bone in his body. Still finds plenty of the ball but thinking this should be it for Joey. 6/10

12- nick Riewoldt: brilliant start to the season where he looked in career best form but injuries looked to impact him and needed a well deserved break. Hopefully can come out firing in the second half. 7/10

13- jack lonie: good vfl player but that's about where it ends for me unfortunately. To small without enough tricks. 3/10

14- jarryn geary: has been his usual courageous, selfless self but will never be a star and lacks polish. 6/10

15- jack billings: started slowly but found some much needed form and started to show why he was a number 3 draft pick. Looks much more damaging as a forward. Genuine match winner. 7/10

16- jack newnes: reliable and consistent as always. Always seems to do his job without starring. Can't complain. 7/10

17- Dylan roberton: superb start to the year. Won plenty of the ball and gave us real run and drive out of the back half. Hasn't had the impact since Webster has gone down but still been positive. 8/10

18- billy longer: strong in the hitouts but that's about where it ends. A non factor around the ground who doesn't have an impact on the game. 5/10

19- Sam Gilbert: almost having a career best year. Has been solid defensively and hasn't seemed to have as many brain fades as usual. Solid contributor. 7/10

20- David armitage: (inj) was struggling to get a kick before the injury and will struggle to get back into the team with the emergence of Steele and Stevens. Any trade value? 2/10

21- Ben long: limited impact in his 2 games. Has had up and down vfl form. Need him to Break into the team to add more pace and X factor. 3/10

22- Nathan brown: super reliable hardly been beaten. Know what you will get from him but has been a handy addition.

25- koby Stevens: knows how to find the footy and adds a hard edge. Only knock is when we play Stevens Steele and dunstan we look slow and once paced. 6/10

27- josh Bruce: disappointing year. Couldn't catch a cold and goal kicking terrible. Needs to find form asap. 4/10

28- tim membrey: has been ok. Hasn't kicked any bags that we saw last year sides seem to have put more time into him. Competitive in the air but can improve. 6/10

29- jimmy Webster: outstanding season until the injury struck. No coincidence our form has dropped since he went out. Takes the game on and makes things happen while stil being able to perform a shut down role. 9/10

32- paddy McCartin: best game on the weekend for the year. Still looks slow and no where near fit enough but we need to persist with him for the rest of the year to help his development. Due for a 3-4 goal game. 5/10

34- Nathan wright: I thought he was performing well before being unfairly omitted. Pressures well and can find the goals. Skills let him down. 6/10

35- jack Sinclair: his silk is what we need more of. Rally polished and generally makes good decisions. Needs to stay at a consistent level. 6/10

36- dan Mckenzie: limited opportunity but looks like he's made of the right stuff. Does make a few to many mistakes at this stage. 5/10

41- Darren minchington: his best looks fantastic but goes missing way to much for my liking. Doesn't put enough pressure on and looks like he struggles to keep up at times. 5/10

44- mav Weller: really disappointing. Fantastic last year kicking 30 goals but not even a shadow of the former self. Looks injured in terrible down on form. 4/10

I had a go at predicting how our season would pan out by working on the likelihood I think we'll win each game from 0 being no chance, to 1 being a certainty to win.

Adelaide @ AO: 0.1
North Melbourne @ ES: 0.5
Gold Coast @ ES: 0.75
Fremantle @ DS: 0.45
Richmond @ ES: 0.55
Essendon @ ES: 0.6
Sydney @ SCG: 0.25
Port Adelaide @ AO: 0.25
West Coast @ ES: 0.55
Melbourne @ MCG: 0.45
North Melbourne @ ES: 0.5
Richmond @ MCG: 0.45

Adding these up gives a probable number of wins: 5.4

This means we would finish on 10-11 wins, and probably around 10th or 11th, which would be a disappointing outcome. To make finals we'd need to win more of those 50-50 games than we lose.

I'd be curious to see what others get using this method.

Are we happy with Geary as captain.

I feel we need a captain that can have a greater influence on the game when someone needs to stand up. Not sure a small back pocket GOP fits the criteria.
