As some of us believe that this year is primarily about finding our best 25 I thought it might be time to hear people's thoughts.

Positives:
We have our future forward structure. Bruce, Paddy and Membrey looks strong, talented and flexible. Unsure of the small around them.

Ross has been great in the middle. Steven and Roo stars in the middle. Lots of ruck options also. Still need consistency and one or two big ins.

Savage has been great in the back half but defence is too reliant on older guard of Geary, Fisher and Dempster.

Good to see Acres improving and Gresham showing class but still a log jam of middle tier players around the edge of 22.

What are your thoughts

Rough thoughts are that you just named two future mids in Ross and Steven. We'll need 8-12 decent mids on the list to challenge. A long way to go there.

After watching the vfl, it will be interesting if NOK, Templeton, Sinclair can establish themselves as AFL mids. Add to that Acres and Gresham and things might develop a lot quicker.
Gresham defiantly
Acres maybe
Other 3 unlikely for mine

people are going to hate me for this but i would trade acres for a mid to late first rounder in this draft
Doubt we'd get that for him.
Why would we want to put ourselves backwards though we're not Brisbane.
Only reason you'd do that is if you knew he wouldn't make it or had great limitations as a player which he doesn't

What didnt you like about his game last night ?
People saying the same thing about Ross not long ago

i was always in ross's camp, had to come to his defence numerous times

i'm worried for acres, he doesnt have the speed or disposal to play outside and i'm not sold that he's going to be the inside player we think he will be on here. he's playing much smaller than he is and doesn't like contact at AFL level. i think he could be one of these talents that gives us glimpses every now and then, teasing us but never really putting it all together playing to the potential we think he has

i know its an unpopular opinion and i'm happy to be proven wrong and accept that i probably will be proven wrong, but i'd trade him for anything between picks 12-19 or for the right player

on ross you have to remember his break out game had already come by this point in acres career (remember the one vs geelong, a year earlier than at this point in acres career), the issue with ross was just his tank that had to improve and his disposal to tidy up a bit. he wasnt one who didnt look to be adverse to the contested/inside stuff/taking a hit. acres had a better tank than ross too IMO

Christ who are we going to delist next year? All the bottom 6 players are coming good.

Think Shents is the only one that's looking iffy.

going to be hard, hopefully we can trade out a couple for change, then use the accumulated change for a higher pick

I just see so much upside with Blake and believe/hope that once he has 40 to 50 games under his belt and he starts to believe in himself, he will be in our best half dozen players on our list. Has good size seems to get to the right spots and covers the ground well. Hope you are really wrong on this one ;)

I think you have to look at what he was doing at jnr level and then what he does at vfl level.. he's consistantly getting high numbers and goals for sandy... weve already seen he has ability so its not like a curren situation. And his numbers at that level have been a good improvement on last year... thats the best indication in my opinion. I think when u see them regularly getting huge numbers at vfl. It usually doesnt take them long to translate that into AFL. It was same with ross and it took close to 50 games for him.
I believe he'll be following the same path as Ross and we'll see a very different Acres at 50 games.
So for me its a definate keeper.
Same with Billings and Mckenzie and Dunstan and Sinclair. How sick are we gona be when they've all matured and played over 50 to 100 games.

Anyone who's had a run in the firsts so far this year has done their bit.
Curro and Shents probably looking a bit dicey, maybe followed by Murds and Eli.

If you see those faults then why would we get that pick for him? I wouldn't trade in a fit unless we knew he wanted to go back to Perth and we haven't ever really heard that. One of the reasons I wouldn't trade him is I don't think we would get a first rounder for him and secondly I see potential. I know that means we may get a first rounder for him but I'm not sure clubs trade on guess work and I'm guessing on his ability.

Watch the replay & see how often Blacres gets caught with the ball in close & manages to get it out by hand & to our advantage.

He's tracking beautifully. The outside stuff & disposal will come.

I wouldn't trade Blake for anything outside of a top 5 pick.

for the same reason we got pick 21 for stanley, clubs still see potential and think they can reach that potential

Curren, Lee and Shents wont be there next year. Fisher and Dempster should both retire imo.
Longer potentially traded.
That makes 6 which is probably enough to turnover at this point.

Eli has been incredibly consistent at VFL level and when he played AFL he looks neat enough to me (needs to get more ball still).
I would definitely be persisting with Eli. I think he can make it.

Agree that Murdoch is borderline. De-list or 1 more year.

If we lose Fisher, Dempster, and Lee, we're pretty short down back. Carlisle, Delaney, Goddard (injured), Coughlan (rookie). And Robbo and Gilbo who are a bit too mobile for some jobs. I'd keep Lee if either of the veterans retire.
