Not even Buckley can kick bullets 65 metres...in fact any bullet pass isnt going to go past 35, 40 metres. Every kick that goes 60+ metres is going to be a torp or spiral.

If Pavlich has better foot skills than Cousins, Wirrpunda or Judd then Im the Pope.

As for pace, he's too slow of the mark to be a dominant midfielder. I would be much more nervous about him if he were playing CHF/CHB.

Hmm, Pavlich is 4th in the competition in inside 50's and one thing you can be sure with Pav, he will use the ball very well all the time. And when he's in the centre, he gets a few clearances as well. He spent a fair bit of time in the centre in the Adelaide and Kangaroos games and he got 7 and 5 clearances respectively in those 2 games.

OK, maybe not bullets but they are so accurate, and travel with a low trajectory. And maybe 65m might have been stretching it a little but I was trying to make a point.

And Kerr kicked a goal from 55 out and it was a normal drop punt, and you wouldn't think he is a very long kick. Quite a few players can kick it 60-65m with drop punts.

Do you not remember the last derby? He ran around the ground, picked up possesions at will and set up a lot of goals. And Pavlich is quick.

And even the pre-season derby... which Pav was in the middle in the first quarter, he got about 8 possesions, kicked 2 goals and it was no coincidence we were 3 goals up.

Face it Pavlich is too slow to play in the midfield, isnt good enough when the ball comes to ground and isnt agile enough. A quick sidestep or a juke here or there and you are by Pav and streaming towards goal.

Some interesting matchups- food for thought-

Given his indifferent form of late, will Fremantle risk leaving Cousins unattended so they can use their #1 tagger on Judd or Kerr? Ideally for West Coast, Judd matches up on Carr best-

Will West Coast run any tags? if so, who? Hasleby and Pavlich are the two key guys who need to be stopped, but given the relative strengths of the two midfields, they can probably only afford to 'waste' one player in a tagging role- Chick might be the go in either case- strong enough to handle Pavlich, good tackler, and fast enough to make him accountable the other way.

Kerr v Hasleby shapes up as a good battle- both in outstanding form.

For West Coast, Wirrpunda, Chick, Banfield, Wooden etc will probably spend serious time in the midfield, for freo the second stringers are McManus, Walker, Cook and co.

With so many threats around, it probably all comes down to
Gardiner v Simmonds. Both have been in pretty kickass form of late, and personally, this is where I reckon we can win the game- If Gardiner gets on top, our midfield will win out, and if that happens, we're sitting pretty. For Freo to succeed, they're going to need either a career best performance from Simmo, or to utilise tag-team tactics like Adelaide did, probably a trio of Simmonds, Longmuir and Sandilands.
No matter how well Gardie plays WC'll need greater support from their ruck backup if they're going to get 4 quarters out of Gardiner.

I would put a tag on Judd for sure. He is the most dangerous player in the Eagles line up. But it won't be Carr, I think he will be left with Cousins. Would Chick be fit enough to run with Pavlich? He missed a few weeks and Pavlich can run all day. And if that were the match up WC set, I think Pavlich will move forward as much as possible because he will be able to outmark him.

I don't think we'll play Sandilands. I think Simmonds will ruck and Justin Longmuir will back him up when needed. I think Headland will be the key for us. He hasn't had a great couple of weeks but started to play well in the 2nd half last week and is due for a big game. Fletcher could get under our guard again, and hopefully we match an attacking player on him so he is accountable and doesn't roam around doing whatever he pleases.

And as for the AA team, I think Gardiner would definitely make it and Ph. Matera too seeing as he is leading the comp in goals while Hasleby, Pavlich, Bell, Judd and Wirrpunda would be pushing for selection. Another player who has had a very good season to date for us is Matty Carr.

Not sure if Chick is fit enough to run with Pavlich all game just yet, he only has 2 games under his belt. He will perhaps take turns with Embly. Embly doesnt have the strength of Pav but he would kill him in the speed, agility department.

I think we would also have set rules for Pavlich moving forward out of the midfield. If he moves forward, Chick doesnt go with him but someone else picks him up like Jako or whatever, just a few matchup changes. Things like that.

I tend not to worry to much about Pavlich though. I also dont really worry about Bell, Ive never seen a guy amass so many disposals without having any effect on the game whatsoever. It's uncanny. Im more worried about guys like Haselby, Medhurst and Headland.

Best kick...means little. Best kick could be easily substituted as longest kick which Pavlich obviously has, although Wirrpunda can kick it 60+ pretty easily. I hope you made this clear in your post on the main board, I havent checked it out yet.

Im talking skills. Hitting targets, looping well weighted kicks over a player, small kicks, long kicks, check sides, both sides of the body etc etc. Cousins, Judd and Wirrpunda all have easily better skills by foot than Pavlich does. Can Pavlich even use his left?

i think that pavlich is a danger player. left to play his own game he can be very damaging. i would like to see embley get first crack at him. if our midfield gets on top embley can push forward and force pavlich to play an accountable game of footy.

Yes, I am talking small kicks, long kicks, check sides, both sides, looping kicks, etc. Yes Pavlich can use his left but he only uses it as a last resort.

Cousins kicked two fantastic goals off his left as if he were on his right. Cuz, Wirra, Judd...dont have preferred sides...they just kick it. Pavlich already is proven to be behind them in the skills department if he cant use both sides. Well he can use both sides, but one is obviously weaker than the other.

I mean c'mon Jod, Cousins' main weakness is his kicking. He doesn't much penetration at all and can't kick long distances. His foot skills are what lets him down IMO.

Wirrpunda... usually a pretty decent kick. Can kick it long too. Does kick quite a few clangers though. What did you think of his disposal on Sunday?

Judd it is hard to tell, haven't really seen enough of him over a long period to judge wether he is a consistent kick.

So what does say about Pavlich... only 2 clangers? Wirra has 6 times as many clangers.

I didn't say his left foot isn't very good. I've seen him kick with it a couple of times and I thought they were good kicks but he doesn't seem to use his left until he really needs to. Which is fair enough.
