I didn't say his left foot isn't very good. I've seen him kick with it a couple of times and I thought they were good kicks but he doesn't seem to use his left until he really needs to. Which is fair enough.

Not really. Pavlich doesnt play in the midfield ALL THE TIME. When in the midfield you are under constant pressure and you need both sides of your body. Pavlich may not go so well for extended periods of time in the midfield if he isnt confident on his left. Also some clangers from midfielders are just grab and kick in a congested midfield that could just land on an opponents chest. Deemed as a clanger but it isnt really, just unfortunate.

Also arent handballs also classed as clangers, if a players handpasses directly to the other team then isnt that a clanger?

Yes, but Pavlich does play in the middle because he has more inside 50's than any other Docker or Eagle, and has quite a few clearances as well. And he too has to do a lot of quick kicks and stuff. If I see him in a situation again where he nees to use his left foot and only his left foot, but instead tries to baulk the player to get back on his right foot, I will come back on here and apoligise. I'll keep an eye out for it.

And there are only a couple of players that are equally confident on both sides of the body. Leon Cameron for example.

Yeah Pavlich plays through the middle but not ALL the time. Cousins will never move from the midfield for the entire game and will be tagged ALL game creating more pressure on him when he has the ball. Pavlich doesnt get this sort of pressure when he is disposing of the ball.

Also I50's arent really an indicator of a midfield player. Anyone can kick the ball inside 50. In fact a lot of defenders can kick the ball inside 50. Clearances though are more the midfield thing.

Don't know which Cousins you are watching, but the Cousins that I know will regularly spend periods in the forward pocket or the flank.

Against St Kilda he probably spent half a quarter there for one period.
 
Cuz is an outstanding kick when going short/medium and not under pressure. When kicking long he tends to come unstuck and when under pressure he tends to throw it on the boot without really trying to spot a target.
 
Wirra has the best kick on the WCE list. Kills Pavlich IMO
Judd is very good, especially considering he tries to break lines and often kicks with 2-3 blokes trying to tackle him. Has a very accurate kick, and probably the most penetrating when going into the attacking 50. At the very worst breaks even with Pavlich, though my unbiased (yeah right) opinion is that he's better.
Cousins, as good as he is, has a weird kicking style and seems to struggle long distance. As someone mentioned, too often he just bombs it forward. Pavlich wins here.

Pavlich has very good skills, especially when you consider his size his skills seem that much more impressive. He could be the dominant CHF of the decade, but in midfield he is being wasted. A bloke that size cannot compete in speed, agility and quickness of getting boot to ball against the smaller types.
 
all this pav talk woosha wont let pav just run around like he owns the place , i think a tough close checking person will make pavs day a little harder than you freo clowns expect:D :D :D

It was Jod that suggested letting him run around at will because players like Fletcher, Braun, whoever, were more dangerous.
 
I didn't bother reading all of this thread - got bored with the 'ur **** we're not' stuff...
but anyways
Last year pavlich was left alone and not tagged - he played in quite a few positions and really hurt us (so did Haselby)
Matchups
Kerr v Hasleby - great battle, each will push forward but both must be accountable
Carr v Cousins - Carr will tag cousins (maybe after the ball has been thrown up in the middle like last year) Cousins will get plenty of the ball, but what worries me is Carr is taller and better over head, he is also a good kick for goal and could hurt Cousins the other way
Bell v Fletcher - both will definately rack up the possies - pretty even contest
There the matchups i can see developing - which leaves Pavlich and Judd...both matchwinners
I'm not sure who could go with Pavlich - possibly Jones. I think we'd need to double team him if he spends vast amounts of time in the middle
Headland and Chick will be used in the middle in bursts for explosiveness and up forward both should provide value for money.
Great matchups all over the ground - Could Judd and Pavlich line up on each other - would be great to watch!

Yep, agree with most of that, but I think we will get someone to tag Judd. IMO, he is your most dangerous midfielder.
