Mitchell will develop the goals, is he speed a massive liability? Dunno think he can get past it,

If we accept the balance of the team is currently right who can he replace to keep the same balance of inside/outside and fast / slow

Kennedy, bird, parker maybe hanners mcglynn?

Lloyd is most susceptible in the team but does a mitchell for lloyd swap work for structure?

I think mitchell is next in but just not sure for who on current form and structure
 
Looking at the list we know that a replacement for Shaw could be McVeigh (he was great in that role last year), which would free up a role for another mid.

I wouldn't consider Smith a traditional half back (more a back pocket stopper) so we have two of three to replace in the nearish future. I too rate Biggs, his composure in particular impressed me.

Rohan could indeed, or on a wing.

I don't get to see Heeney, so I had a little peek at Knightmare's draft ratings just now. Heeney has bolted to top 5 in the power rankings overall. Sharing the mantle of top midfielder in the draft.

Supposedly has started to show a real ability to burst and run and carry out of tight contests.

That'll do perfectly.

rischitelli wont be much good in the future, ablett may decline (unlikely)

I'm not too worried. KP Defenders seem to grow on trees. Our next one could come from a number of places. It could be that one of the reserves players steps up. It could be that Sam Reid is developed down back, it could be that we poach a fringe player from another club. Not many people would have predicted that any of Richards, LRT, Grundy or Leo Barry would become quality KP defenders at the start of their careers.

I've had this idea myself, really thought Carlisle would be a special player last year so would be glad to make a play. Would probably need to take a slight pay cut to play here though.

Me likes the idea of Sammy being made into a KPD when it's required. Rohan {edit} has the attributes to make a very good HBF.

This year has changed direction for us now, looking healthier than a few weeks back. The future for this year and beyond looks bright too. Don't wanna think about who we put up for trade, yeah I know it's gonna happen but it feels like I'm offering to sell one of my kids.

I honestly don't think Frawley is going to get 800,000 on any market.

Carlisle is going to get at least 500,000 on any market, possibly more after there is a bidding war for him... No way we are going to be able to afford him next year unless we clear another player from our list (On top of ROK, LRT and most likely Goodes retiring).

If that is the case then we would be looking at offloading one of our better midfielders which I just can't see happening.
 
If there's one thing ever swans fan can agree on its that when our midfield dominates, we win, end of story. Because unlike other teams when our midfield dominates not only do they win the ball in the centre, they go forward an kick goals. When our midfields down we get absolutely bitchslapped. Last year in the game against Collingwood we got shown up so bad, an the only saving grace was tipped with 6goals, otherwise we would've been pummeled, no matter the forward line, when our midfield does shit, we lose, when they do well, we don't even need a coward line, but it's a nice luxury ;)
 
I can see this group carrying us to another premiership (or two) in the not so distant future for sure. What's most important is keeping as much of this group together as we can for as long as we can. If we lose one or two of them over the next 5 years then so be it but maintaining that core group needs to be our poriority IMO. It's guys like Rampe, Biggs, Llyod, Derickx, BJack, XRichards etc which hold the fate of our team. They are the ones who will build onto that core structure and push it to the most elite level. We need to keep our core while also allowing them natural progression, opportunity and development. No point having LRT, Goodes, ROK, Shaw, 'Eski, Pykey, Macca, Benny & Teddy at their peak (or pushing out their last few years) and missing the boat on guys like Perris or Biggs IMO. Superstars like JPK, Jack & Hanners at one point in time took another more senior players spot from them and owned it. That's what I'm most excited with seeing from our next crop of youngsters now. Trying their hardest to take a senior spot, dominate it, own it and make it theirs. Evololving our core midfield is key rather than just relying on the core alone.

Might it be worthwhile trying to turn Mitchell into a tagger in the Kirk mould?
For mine, I think we need a Lloyd type more than we need a Mitchell type in the team at moment.

I would imagine Jetta will be going home at the end of his next contract [2015], given his desire to return home and Goodes will not be playing anymore.

If we are successful over the next few years the sting will be that we will lose players on the fringe, with Horse talking of flexibility it will be most interesting to see how the youngsters develop their games.
