That tackle and bullet pass to reiwoldt was very impressive.

This...^^^...kinda thought he showed real good glimpses last week when he came on and backed it up on friday night..smooth mover who has without a doubt has LISTENED and worked on what he needed to work on. The kid has the hunger and is taking any opportunity he is given and slowly working his way into the senior line up..;)

Great to see a thread about the kid. He won us the game that Conca nearly cost us.

That's pretty savage on Conca! From my vantage point, and it was in front of me, it looked like the St.Kilda player grabbed Conca to stop him from being a target. So Conca then grabbed him and tried to push him away. The St.Kilda player didn't let go so in one motion tried to throw him off holding him and thus ended up throwing him to the ground. The umpire saw that last bit and took the ball off us and gave it back to the saints and they then gaoled from the next passage of play.

The umpire, should have payed Conca the initial free for holding. He did not realise that all he was trying to do was to extricate himself from the St.Kilda players grasp. At worst it should have been ignored as the umpire would not have known who was holding who.

Good wrap up of a shock decision, players need to be really careful though

He's Croatian..

Its pronounced Marrik because his family choose to pronounce it that way.

Probably Australianised Croatians that have been here for ages.
Probably easier than having to explain to every single person that the c is pronounced as a ch instead of a ck sound. Foreign surnames are a royal pain in English speaking countries, but can be amusing watching people stumble.

Back on topic, was disappointed he couldn't carry over the NAB cup form but he clearly has talent and having to work his way in rather than getting gifted a space due to injury or suspension is a great way to test his dedication. Great kick, if he can consistently put in defensive efforts like the mentioned tackle he could yet prove to be another golden pickup.

The Geelong game knocked him around a bit confidence wise I reckon. Got a start and couldn't capitalize ending up a very dirty day.Credit to him for bouncing back hard through the twos and now making a solid contribution as sub.
Back I'm his hands now.

Regardless, Conca needs to show constraint & disapline;:thumbsu:

His actions over the last few weeks have penalised the side, especially late in the game.
Nahas could be almost blamed (for Eagles loss)due to the abuse in our forward pocket , with 5 minutes left on the clock. Abuses ump get a free , plus 50 meters , turns into a 2 goal turnaround. King also has contributed to this.
King seems to get a very tough time from all umps, needs to show he's not affected by this; Just like getting tagged every week, need to accept it.

The tackle was brilliant yes but the "bullet pass"......? He couldn't really miss him could he? Imagine what would have been said if he didn't pass it to him or buggered it up?

If you can get past the fact that the entire book is about Collingwood, and I know that's a bridge too far for many of us, Peter Ryan's book "Side by Side" is an instructive read. One of the things he covers is the factors Collingwood's recruiters take into account when selecting draft picks. Impulse control is high on their list. Lack of it, or lapses, can cost games, and, in the case of Phil Carman's infamous headbut on boundary umpire Carberry, premierships. While Nahas' and big Ivan' recent reactionary vents were totally understandable, they were one-offs while Kingy and to a lesser degree Conca now have form. No one expects players to perform like robots but they all need to find ways to deal with the occasional ridiculous unfair decisions that will come their way. Most do.

For what it's worth, in a local Canberra league game a few years ago, a particular player was so incensed by a bad decision against him that he called the umpire a pelican. The umpire remonstrated along the lines that 'you can't call me a pelican' before realising he was, in fact, acting like a goose. Win to the player.

Match saving tackle, then drilled it in to Riewoldt - if he put too much hang time on it he Jack wouldn't have been able to run in. (Edwards threw it to him but it's about time we got some luck go our way)

Had 8 touches in the last quarter last week aswell. I think he deserves to start on the ground this week.

Agree. I mean we've got the ball, Conca is running down the ground to give an option. Who's trying to stop who?

In future tho Conca should try to make it obvious he's being held rather than wrestling the guy off. If so we get a 50m penalty.

I havnt had this feeling for a looooong time...

I have complete confidence in our player development and recruitment of late, if we can get the best out of Maric this is going to be a another huge winner for us. The kid oozes talent, and at his best he could be pushing towards a N Brown type forward with a modern defensive skillset.

he is great in passages of play but he just doesnt do it enough, at best he will only sustain his offensive skillset for about 15 - 20 minutes and go missing for the rest of the game

I agree totally and this is why it will make or break his second chance at the highest level!

In saying that, he's certainly been our 'power play' as the sub!

It was the the correct kick for a player of his skills and the level hes playing.
