Not playing finals feels uncomfortably natural these days, but after last nights game, it made me realise how much I miss our team being involved. As good as it was watching the Saints belt the pies last night at the G, watching the saints supporters all up and about knowing that they're 120 minutes away from a possible grand final birth certainly made me envious.
And Still none of the games at the finals series this year have been bigger then both of the times we played Collingwood. (77 and 80k)
If we had been the team to play the pies last night, I would be expecting not far off the 100 mark. Boy, how good would that have been, completing a perfect hat-trick against them in front of a sold out blues faithful!
I still remember distinctly waking up on the morning of the Richmond semi final all pumped up and ready to cheer on the boys. As you get to the ground, you are overwhelmed by the massive crowd and the extreme impatience for the first bounce is a feeling you can only experience in these sort of games. Of course, we sadly ended up losing that day by a couple goals but the roller coaster you're taken on during the game, riding every kick and every goal, epitomises why there is no better sporting spectacle in the world than a do or die finals series at the MCG.
Hopefully we get a shot at it next year, because I don't think I could stand another year of watching our team silently sitting by the sidelines. We are Carlton and deserve to be playing September action so hopefully Sticks and Ratts can fire the troops up and make them all bleed navy blue.
It really is pretty sad to think that the last time we won a finals game, the twin towers were still standing..
