You are right BSA. I personaly think he should have walked 1/2 way thru 1999. Once he anounced he was giving it up then Hart should have taken over.

1 thing though. The Saints certainly picked up the big names (except Bell. Gee what if the deal with Freo had fallen thru & the saints had picked him up pre season).

But Hamill isn't worth 500,000 per year & neither is Gehrig. They paid for Kouta & got Hamill. Can you imagine how much great players are going to ask for now.

Anyway. I might make my 1st trip to Colonic rnd 15 to have a look.

Interesting to hear people's reactions to Malcolm's decision - one woman said there would be 50,000 crows fans hissing at Malcolm when he comes back to Footy Park! Personally I've never really liked Malcolm (even though he did help us get those Premierships). He has a large ego and huge self belief. He has always been unapproachable to the media over here in Adelaide, only deigning to give interviews when he felt like it. He was certainly "The Messiah", but now could be known as "Judas". How things change.

Thanks Shinboners,

We all have to go through the bad times at some stage. I guess our teams have had to struggle a lot more than others but it makes it all worthwhile when the good times arrive.

With our recruting of Blight and the players, we did what we had to do.

It is a valid point that everyone is making about us paying Hamill and Gehrig more than they are worth at the moment. But in reality, we had no choice. Our membership is the lowest in the competition, we won the wooden spoon winning a miserly 2 games and while we have no debts, we are not exactly flush with cash. We could either float along and die a slow death or take a risk, get out the cheque book and invest in our future.

If the current indications are right and all Victorian teams are not able to survive, I want my club to get out there and do something about it. Just like the kangaroos are doing. Some moves have come off and others have not but at least you club are making the effort.

From all reports, our membership may rise between 5000 & 10000 purely on the results of the last week. Our on-field stocks have been boosted significantly and we have one of the best coaches going round.

The events of the last week may ultimately fail next year, but at least we finally have a reason to feel optimistic about our future; both on and off the field.
