LOL. srs.

You would do well not to label me a bigot, if that was your intention. Sook.

Since you've offered exactly zero except tears in your time here, you won't be missed by many.

Take the first door on the left.

That's the disabled toilet...I checked!

You've got a deal for me. A really good deal. We negotiate and come to terms over a period of days at the negotiating table.

I accept in principle and agree to sign on the dotted line the next morning. A gentleman's agreement in a sport that has been built on gentleman's agreements and honesty.

You tell the world via the media.

Then I turn around and say, "sorry mate, I've changed my mind, sorry for the inconvenience pal, but stiff shit for you".

Are you going to do business with me again?

If you did, you'd be a dill.

This is known in Scotland as "The Maurice Johnstone" case. Never forgave him

Well, for the record, he is coming back to Perth. Question of whether we have another crack at him may only be a matter of when. As I have heard it from the horse's mouth that we were still actively pursuing him even during his time at Melbourne, I consider it a fair bet that he's back on our radar now. Good, bad or indifferent business acumen aside, it's another opportunity to nab a 26 year old KPP for nix.

In the Mo Johnstone case there was a supposed divide which transcended money. The divide was some sort of unhinged definition of catholicism within christianity.
With Clark the see-saw was personal integrity vs loot.
Mo maybe had an idea he'd help to transcend nasty religious animosity for money.
Mitch just wanted more loot.

only a fool would knock back a million dollars over 4 years. I find it impossible to hold it against him.

OK, call me a fool if you want. Million bucks on its own is a massive money, however that million becomes a little bit less when you look at it as a difference between 3 and 4 million [still a big money, nonetheless]. Both 3 and 4 millions are big amounts. If I seriously looked at two offers and the 3 mil offer also gets me to my hometown where I get to play footy and spend most days with my friends and family, then for me at least, it's a no brainer. Either option would set me for life. If there were still any doubts, then my personal commitment and given word would certainly erase it. But that's me.

No... No it wasn't Scon. Mo Johnstone signed for Celtic for the second time (or so we thought)...was paraded by the legend Billy McNeill at a press conference in a Celtic shirt whilst his management team had negotiated a huge deal with Graeme Souness' (May the fleas of a thousand camels forever infest his armpits) Rangers.

He then joined Rangers.

The subsequent turmoil and eventual acceptance of Catholics into a team that had previously (almost) never signed one was a by product of his skill.

Mo Johnstone was still a treachorous turncoat. The tale is scarily similar

If I got offered either 3 million in perth with family or 4 million in melbourne, i would push my own mother over to go to melbourne. sure 3 and 4 and small numbers, but not when you add million to the end of it.

I think we're all different. The cost of the weekly shop is still nothing really whether your getting paid $14k or $19k per week. Happiness is an intangible.

No one could have known that taking Melbourne's offer was leading him down the path to depression. If the offer was 3 mil vs 4 mil + depression + a reduced playing career I'm sure he'd have made a different choice.

I think he would have underperformed and felt the heat over here anyway. He'd still have been one of the higher paid players, and I dare say our pre seasons are more strenuous than those that caused his hamstring to tear at Melbourne.

No probs about the permutations.
My stance and yarn is that if you give your word or shake a hand on any subject you then wear the consequences good or bad.

Indeed.

What really gets to me with some of our supporters is that they are all seemingly happy with the current position of the club, yet conveniently forget that to gain our new found recognition and respect we had to cut some throats to get there.

Harris and Rosich may not be admired by all, however they are hard nosed businessmen who have steam-rolled some changes across the supporter base, (to some consternation), and pulled off the most ruthless coaching coup in living memory.

We are now a professional, hard-edged and admired club across the board that takes no prisoners and expects no favours.

Yet some here wish to take us back to the bad old days where we become the laughing stock of the competition by taking a dog mercenary who royally and publicly screwed us in the freckle, because of some misguided, panic driven notion that "we'll all be rooned if we don't get a proven KPF and he is the only one available on the cheap".

I mean, F*** me dead, some of you need a good hard look at yourselves.

All would be forgiven for one sip from the cup mate.

I very much doubt that as he burnt a rather large bridge.

This isn't chapel.

People can't have it both ways by wanting a strong, tough club, then breaking a principle by going back to a dog because times are, (apparently), tough.

Once Pav steps of the plate we need a long term fix, not a band aid. Rather put games into the young blokes myself.

Alright I'm heading off, but long story short; if the club didn't think a kpf could be the difference between a flag and no flag, we would not have recruited Gumbleton. In my mind Clark = Gumbleton level risk and reward. I don't think we will get him because he will probably find that depression doesn't just disappear and he will feel like shit again sooner or later and that will be the end of it. If recruiting him meant Freo won a flag, I'd trade my own mrs' mother to get him here.

Let's remember The Smiling Assassin from the Bullies who was Hall of Famed last night.
Hall of Famed for talented team play over decades.
Andy McLeody as the best thing since BigTV started.
Fella who took Maurice Rioli and Michael Long's talent to task by suggesting history compare them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Gumbleton snub us in his last contract and resigned with the Bombers for a year? Ok, not as high profile, but we didn't take it personally then and signed him on..

Or, maybe, he was showing loyalty to a club that had supported him through thick and thin and spent a f***ing fortune on him in medical expenses.

Snubbing??

He took a one year contract extension once he finally got fit and couldn't cement a place in their side.

Totally different circumstances.
