I'd be more than happy to bring this thread up in 1-2 years!!!

I don't want him to fail, yet I cannot see him in our best 22 in 2 years! That's my opinion, hence the thread!!
We will go nowhere as a footy club if players like Farmer are in our best 22....

He does have the odd good game. and plus we got him and Nason just for getting rid of Schulz.

He had a horrible mismatch. Unfortunately, he's not the shut down small defender we'd hoped he'd be, because he's just too slow. When he gets to the contest he does extremely well, and when he gets the ball he uses it very well (absolutely thumping kick, too), but he gets burned off by the little speedsters. We'd have to use him a little like a Josh Hunt for mine, but can we afford to carry another loose defender next to Newman, Connors, possibly Deledio? The good news is he can also play as a small forward which I wouldn't mind seeing him as next week, considering Morton and Nahas had shockers and deserved to be dropped, and the Eagles have no real dangerous small (LeCras plays tall and I'd expect Thursfield to take him). With his thumping boot he could play a Chris Knights type role.

Famer has no place in our team. I have watched him play every week and each time he is beaten by his direct opponent. He is not fast enough to play in the back pocket on the lively small forwards, which is a massive concern. He gets beaten one on one and it must be demoralising for his teammates to put in so much effort and then see the ball being kicked to his direct opponent with Farmer jogging behind him!
I don't usually write players off that haven't played 30-40 games but am quite comfortable to do this for Farmer! Needs to be McMahon'd!

Only positives from Farmer

- Got rid of Shultz
- Got pick 71 Nason.

That is all. Would be happy to see him delisted or traded at season's end.

You really cannot take into account last week. One good game in absolute slop which is probably the only conidtions he won't be exposed in.

Love his kick but he is to slow to play on the small defenders and is to short to play on anyone slower

Can't be bothered saying it again so -
People who want Farmer dropped need to take another look, he does a lot off the ball, works incredibly hard to get to the contest and is in fact a terrific kick.
Just because he doesn't pile on 20 touches a game, or just because he got beaten in the first half by one of the best small forwards of the last 5 years, doesn't mean he's a spud. He's improving every week and there's a reason we keep playing him over the likes of Polo and Hislop. Also he's Leppa's favourite of the defenders so that has to say something. Obviously he's on the right track.

Exactly! Too short, too slow, skills are not good enough and does not look to belong at AFL level! We could probably trade him for a pick in the 50-70's, however, I don't think this would happen..

In retrospect, I should have gone about this thread differently but it's so bad watching him get smashed by his direct opponent week in week out. I put all my credibility on BigFooty on the line and will say Farmer will not be a regular in our side in 2012+ (which is what we are building for.)

This thread is ridiculous, of our players, he is one I see weekly improvement in, he's looking more comfortable in the zone and his disposal has been top, something many of our players couldn't claim
last night.

Let's put any one of you calling him a spud at the goal line and see how many kilometres Milne runs before you even reach the 50. Speed aside, what many need to realise is that our strategy is not man on man, watch the Saints last night, every time they get the ball they peel off their zone, we attempt the same and when we make stupid turnovers those players who were working their asses off running for the team, will get caught out.

**** this thread is a joke. What is wrong with people? 24 hour brains before it's whiped clean and then they'll judge a player on the next week.

Farmer was good last week. Also, can we please consider this guys age, amount of games played and playing on one of the best small forwards in the comp?

of course us commentating on someone being a spud are spuds...as the childish reply goes...takes one to know one.

we are bottom...not all our players are top notch...just because they pull on the yellow and black doesnt mean they are above criticism.

The only way up is to replace the players we have now with better players.

As for Madtiger, you are one of the biggest spud posters on this board with your Sassegum optimism and delusion, your weekly Griffiths wank fests and then your daily ideal 22's... This is not Football Fantasy Manager mate.. Be realistic!
mitch only got 2 goals kicked on him yes it could of been more , the first 1 wasnt anything to do with him being up milnes arse mitch had ran of him nahas missed the target by 15mtr ,2nd was 1 of his arsey ones milne was showing mitch respect because when he went up the ground milne went with him maybe you need to whatch how far up the ground the 3rd back man runs , ie,fullback is 1 chb is 2nd ,3rd is bp if you know or can try and work out the game plan that dimma is trying to implerment plus they are playing as their told the last qtr goal that milne past late in the game he put mitch in a head lock and put him to ground should of been a free, you need to what happens behind the ball as to where the backmen run to for their ZONES .:p:rolleyes:

his main problem is that some people on here expect our kids to be brilliant instantly, or else they must be shit. playesr take years to reach their potential and the fact that out of 10 or so games he has played a few good ones shows that he may have something to offer if given time to develop and learn.

mistakes are expected.

ability to kept their feet, reading of the play, some pace off the mark and just general natural footy smarts are what are looked for in young players.

I would go so far as to say he is clearly not good enough for back pocket. Too short, too slow. A skillful Jake King but without the pace.

Yesterday's game was a clear reminder that many of our second string players need to be upgraded not just improved. We smashed St Kilda for clearances and so should have been able to control the play but due to the turnovers and the inability of our backline to hold one player we were done.

Still Mitch Farmer was no where near being the worst Mitch on the ground.

Just wanted to ask, are people upset by Farmers effort on Milne in the second quarter when Milne kicked those 2-3 goals in about 5 minutes?

With the exception of his game in terrential rain in Adelaide. I am not impressed by anything I have seen from Farmer this year.. Slow, not strong enough, not smart enough.. Not a best 22 player at Richmond!:eek::eek:

By the way, he is not a kid! He is 21 years old, been in AFL system for 2-3 years already. I know he still will develop over the next 3-4 years and peak at 25-26, however, I don't think he will be good enough to stay in our team in the next 1-2 years. Just my opinion, and from this thread I am not alone!
