Just listening on sen. Quite impressive - seems to have grown up a lot.

If he lived up to his ABILITY would certainly be an upgrade on Edwards/McGuane.

Thoughts?

I read somewhere that he is linked to Carlton but then again nearly every player on the market is linked to either Carlton or the Pies. Maybe worth bringing in if the price is right.

Definitely worth a look imo. Dominated through the middle and going forward kicking goals. Dominated rep games as well as the weaker Tassie league. Was a pick 6 and had high wraps for a reason and seems to have matured.

Hardwick coached him before. Probably won't want him if he was one of the ones who judged his character to be very poor.

A good fit for the ressies with perhaps an option to recruit him at the end of next year?

Will get picked up now, so we'd have to jump in. Probably 3rd round or so.

There's other players we need much more than Thorp.
He'd be behind Jack, Edwards and even McGuane (if he stayed) IMO. I would think we'd be concentrate on nailing some tough inside Mids and a goal kicking mid fwd..

he's a tall who can play midfield. They are a rare commodity. McGuanne will go, he's a free agent and will be offered more game time elsewhere. Sadly he is as good as gone imo. McBean should push Azza out of the side (who is getting older anyway) but what if we have an injury to a key player or if Thorp demands a game. Competition for spots is paramount. I say get him. Its worth the risk.

Play midfield?? Look I can see that he is very keen to have another crack at it...but let's be honest - he's been playing in the Tasmanian league... Let's not get too excited about him...

perhaps. I think its worth the risk, was very highly rated junior with a bad attitude. Has reportedly fixed his attitude and has been tearing it up at a lower level. Will back the club as always but I would be happy if we had a punt on him.

Well if he cost nothing maybe, but I just think we should be looking at different types of players as a priority.

We won't get him with Bulldogs, Carlton and St.Kilda all looking for tall targets.
While it'd be nice to get him, we don't really need him with both Elton and McBean showing good signs.

If you look at both of the Hawks premiership sides, they nailed their recruiting the year before their flag win. In 2008, they drafted in Cyril and Dew, and this most recent off-season they brought in Lake, Simpkin and Spangher. All 5 of those guys played huge roles in the respective seasons and all but Cyril were recycled. I think that the way next season may shape up, we have a genuine chance to win if we improve in the area's we need to. Thorpe would be a great pick imo, it would offer us a recruit that is ready to bring straight in and compete. I say go for it if we feel that there isn't a talented kid that can help us at that pick. I would imagine however, that there would be a club out there willing to give up an earlier pick than us.

Would happily take a punt on him - ready made player and gives McBean more time to develop.

We seem to go ok with key forwards from Tassie ;)

It is not a question of whether Thorp is good enough, and his form in the Tassie State League should not be underestimated. He has not just played well, he has dominated the league... Players like Jeremy Howe and Aaron Hall were drafted playing good footy. And other ex AFL players have come back and played well also. But Thorp has tore the competition apart.. Remember as a kid he was ahead of his junior teammates Grant Birchall and Jack Riewoldt.. Football ability is not a question mark of Mitch Thorp. There is only one big question and its is his attitude right? Will he work hard for his chance? Hard to make it? And be part of the team? I think he has shown he will.. If available at our 3rd round pick we shouldn't hesitate, and seriously consider him in the 2nd..

My memory is not great but along with the poor attitude, didn't he also have doggy knees or ankles? Talent was never the issue. I'm calling Saints or Doggies in the 3rd round. No source, just a guesstimate.

One thing is a constant... Every year supporters think they can get a potential superstar for nothing. Whether it be a Garlett bad attitude in the draft or an injury prone egotistical delistee.

It's 1/100 to pay off and I'd prefer to keep drafting safe bets and don't get involved with chasing potential superstars "for nothing" cos here are some wise words that I'm sure the new Richmond understands: the general attitude of chasing stars for free actually will cost you in the long run.
