The reason I didn't like Mitch Marsh he because he stunk and kept getting picked.

If he stops stinking then there's no reason to dislike him any more. People that hold onto that dislike are just morons.

For what it's worth I'm still not 100% convinced but he's had a good series. The South African series could be the making of him but it could also be a disaster.

Because he smells

FMD words fail me

....you don't think I meant he literally smelt bad right?

I don't think using stinks as a euphemism for bad is some cryptic comment, is it?

Let me rephrase it for you. I didn't like Mitch Marsh because he was bad at Test match cricket. Actually, one of the worst top 6 batsmen ever based on his statistics. If he is no longer bad, and is actually good, I'll like him!

Well done MM. Very mature innings. He’s played on two flat pitches and has done all that was expected and more. I am still unsure how his current technique/form will stack up on an uneven/swinging pitch. Time will tell.

To be fair our entire batting lineup (except for Sir Smith) has question marks over how their technique and form will stack up on a swinging pitch.

I hope he has a long and decorated career for a winning Aussie side. Solely to spite you.

But seriously, don't know why you'd bother watching cricket in the first place if flogs distress you so much, since it's a sport full of them.
Life is full of flogs, it is is impossible to avoid them.
To not watch test cricket because I cannot stand one person is a stupid suggestion.

Even Smith has question marks over that
Only time he has looked troubled in the past few years is when the ball has swung.

Why is this in the news now? I remember it being announced ages ago.

I also don't understand why it's so lauded.

It's not like he's in desperate need of a pay day but has still selflessly put the Ashes ahead. He got a million last year, plus his CA contract would be well into 6 figures (especially being around the team/squad in all 3 forms), plus his BBL contract etc. Guy would have money falling out of his ears, the obvious decision is to improve his test career.

Surely you can recognise this as a good thing?

He could get more money for less work in the IPL.

Because you would expect any other player in his position (injury-prone, lacking Test team security, one of the biggest IPL earners) to take the money and run.

Taking an effective 50% pay cut because he wants to better himself as a red-ball batsman is a pretty big thing, and really shows his dedication to the long format of the game.
