Ch9 news have just reported Hawk Mitchell was punched in the face after a fight at the Hawthorn hotel.

HAWTHORN last night confirmed that key midfielder Sam Mitchell was assaulted at a Hawthorn hotel on Saturday night.

The Hawks said the incident happened at 11.30 after a man abused and then struck a female member of Mitchell's party.

The club said Mitchell had been punched in the face when he interceded in an attempt to "defuse the situation". "A scuffle ensued and Mitchell and the patron wrestled to the ground before security staff quickly intervened and separated the pair."

He and his friends "immediately left the venue and returned home", the club said. Mitchell was not injured in the scuffle and will join teammates at pre-season training in Tasmania today.


If this was at the footy the AFL would have fined sammy for wrestling by now.

There ws a huge pile of bodies on the floor, when they untangled them all, sammy was at the bottom with the footy !!!

Well done furthermore for not getting charged with drunk and disorderly, drink driving or assault and having the sense to go home once a situation had developed.

Shouldn't have to be like this but unfortunately AFL players are targets for a few 'pub heroes'.
