Hi Guys

just say you've had a mobile phone for 12 weeks. You've loaded some songs on it, and when you go for a jog, you play them through your headphones.

towards the end of your jog, the music cuts out.

you look at the phone and it's dead. there's a picture of a battery with a caution sign next to it. It won't charge.

You take it back to the dealer and the warranty is denied due to "liquid damage".

Is this legal?

Are they allowed to make a phone that lets sweat seep in to the motherboard (the only explanation that makes any sense) and simply deny warranty? Have I really lost the hundreds of dollars it will cost me to get a new one?

Anyone got any tips please?

had the same problem with my iphone 4s , took it to chadstone store and after arguing for a good 5 mins that there is no way it could be water damage , they took it out back and pulled it apart to find there was no water damage and they replaced it on the spot . you may have to make an appointment for them to look at it ( its crazy busy in there ) as silly as that sounds but thats what i had to do . hope this helps ... good luck .

Thanks Deano, 2 issues though.

-There IS liquid damage, it's been pulled apart and photographed by the service guy at Optus.
-It's not an iPhone.

currently sending lots of letters to the manufacturer but my chances of a fair resolution appear very very small....

Tried the TIO mate?

Good suggestion - they make a ''mobile'' phone that can be damaged when someone's ''mobile'' using it how it's intended to be used. Sounds like a faulty design to me - the very thing warranty is meant to cover.

[Unless you were carrying it in your jocks, roobear, Cousins style;)]

Thanks for the tip guys. Just filled out a complaint with the TIO, it was surprisingly and pleasingly easy. Wait and see. (I've been told by a friend in the industry not to get my hopes up).

And no Mr R, while I did have very very strong feelings for my phone, I never really felt the need to get that intimate!

Thanks for the advice Ryz and Mr R. Got a call from my carrier yesterday* to say that upon reviewing my case in light of the TIO complaint, they are going to send me a brand new phone.

*It must have been a good day for overturning miscarriages of justice!
