I think Ebert and Morton have much greater scope for improvement than Palmer. Palmer is nearly a ready-made AFL player, but at the same time he seems to do a lot of things at U18 level that he wouldn't get away with in the AFL. Don't get me wrong, I like him a lot, but I would certainly have Morton above Palmer and Ebert about level-pegging with him.
mmmm....i just think if carlton get the wooden spoon theyll definately take kreuzer but if they dont (theyll probably end up getting pick 2 or 3) they will probably take palmer because they alredy have too many "cothin" type players. they need a midfielder, who is ready-made, and can go forward and kick goals. eddy betts isnt gonna do it all himself, and matty lappin will be retiring soon and i think palmer would fit in well. and if carlton didnt take palmer they would take maric, possibly at 17.

Carlton won't get the spoon, but they may not get another win, meaning they'd have pick 1 and 3 (assuming Melbourne win another > 1 game).

I think they'll win another one though, Pagan's coaching for his future and Fev's playing for his.

Unless I've missed something, isn't Cotchin a goal kicker as well an onballer?

Going by hearsay, Kreuzer and Cotchin would too hard to pass up if we have picks 1 and 2.

I would like to see Maric in Demon colours that would be unreal for our forward stocks. Does anyone know if he is related to Ivan Maric at Adelaide ?

I don't really want Morton with a top 5 pick. While I think he is a really good player we already have lots of those tall running wingmen types. He also appears to me to be more of a linkman rather than a guy who goes after there own ball.

We should pick an onballer if we have that pick.

For me if we had pick 3 I'd want Brad Ebert.

I haven't seen Ebert play unfortunately so can't make comparison, but you say we have tall running wingman but none of them can kick like Morton.

I just have my doubts about Palmer. Why did we hear nothing about him before the carnival? I think he will be a Justin Sherman type player but a little bit more consistent eg. Good running and goal kicking player, not too good defensively, i hope Palmer can be good though because he really impressed me in the carnival.

IMO You didn't hear anything about Palmer before the carnival because he wasn't an AIS graduate. If you re-read those threads you will find most of the potential draftees talked about are either AIS's or they are Vic youngsters. There aren't that many WA readers who would have seen Palmer on this board to hype him up.

However, he had been impressive in the several WAFL senior games he had played before the seniors. I am not suprised at how he did, though I think it will be different when he gets to AFL.

From what I have seen of Cotchin this year, which is about 3-4 games, I haven't yet seen him go forward and kick a goal. Grimes on the other hand, has gone forward and kicked a few - in fact, he kicked 3 goals in about 5 minutes against VC on Wednesday.

Cotch is very good overhead for his size and can play as a small leading forward. IIRC he spent some time up there against QLD in the TAC game and kicked a couple.

Can you recall if they were from marks, or the goals were in general play?

How about a play by play commentary??:p

Cotch kicked 2 that day. I recall one being from a lead and mark at the HBF car park end.

Actually, more accurately he kicked 2 goals 6 behinds ...i think at least a few of the behinds were from swoop, gathers and on the run....should have nailed at least a couple more.....IIRC it was also a bit windy down at Cramer St that day.

like HBF i havent seen cotchin kik anything from the midfield and the reports ive seen from knights i dont think ive seen him kik more than 2. i think palmer's 6 against metro wud sway carlton a bit and his WAFL experience too. itll be a hard one to pick though i rekon

Does everyone think bellchambers will go 1st round? i reckon he will slip

I should have phrased my question better and asked can Cotchin kick a goal rather than kick goals playing in the midfield. ;) :o

I was reading the Tigers board and Weaver raised the question whether Richmond would want a match winning small forward like Thomas or Gary Ablett jnr in Cotchin.

Is Cotchin a pure midfielder or a player a club would drafting hoping he can make it in the middle one day?

I'll be happy with two players in the top four no matter who they are. :D

I honestly dont think he'll slip past the Eagles first round. IMO has too much talent to be a 2nd rounder and will be a perfect fit down at Subi Oval (mind you im like one of very few on BF who really rate this kid).

where do u think hugh sandilands would fare this yaear in the draft. has been dominting school footy and from what i heard he had an honourable carnival. would he be definate draft (if so what number) or a rookie?

From what I have seen, I doubt that he will be drafted. Just a lazy footballer, who won't do the one percenters, and just meanders through matches. If he's lucky, he might get picked up late, or a rookie listing.

Maybe a rookie. Its actually going to be very hard to do the bottom 30 picks or so in this draft because I think there will be a lot of roughies taken where clubs have something specific they want or have seen something they think will fit their club/setup.

25. Mitchell Farmer

Nice try.

Not sure what other comments are on the thread.

But if Greenwood is drafted before Morton then I will be staggered. I would have Ebert over Grimes as well.

I guess someone would have pointed out 21 is not eligible this year.

I might try posting a mock draft of the first couple of rounds, once the draft order is decided. Obviously team requirements play a big part, despite all the "best available" spin.

It would be an interesting experiment for me to see how close I could go, based on absolutely bugger-all first hand experience and a lot of sponging off other people :thumbsu:.

If Naitanui were available this year, I think it's fair to say he'd go higher than 21 anyway.

where do u think gippy power ruckman brent connelly will slot into this years draft.....unlucky to miss final 25 for vic country, hes tall, athletic and has kicked the second most amount of goals behind kruezer in tac cup this year so far.
needs to fill out but shows alot of potential
