People can get offended, especially when someone makes a snide comment about their opinion,(This site, is about sharing your opinion and discussing others opinion in a formal manner) which then leads to arguing and personal attacks.

It's part of a moderators job to ensure that this kind of thing does not happen.

I don't think my posting experience will be noticeably diminished by the absence of the rolleyes emoticon.

Most of the time it is used for condescension.

You may have noticed that stories from the Lions site don't automatically embed in posts any more, and that posting this way just creates a kind of 'port hole' to the AFL site. This has been in effect since the AFL launched their new site, and it means that we have to link the story and quote it like we do with any other article now.

Obviously, we all have lives away from BigFooty (well, OK, not me but you guys do). Some of us have met each other in real life too.

With that being the case, we need to be really careful that we don't post in a way which could reveal another poster's personal details. Many people don't want their real identity linked publicly to their online profile. Even dropping hints or making private jokes might allow a third party to join the dots and work out that Poster X = Person Y in real life.

People are entitled to keep their personal information private. This is rarely a problem for us but it is potentially serious so we felt it important to remind you of the need to respect your fellow posters' privacy at all times.

And yes, for those that asked, weevil really is Monkey from Monkey Magic.
