Congrats to TdK for arriving at Moorabbin, just in time for his new club to bring up 60 years without a flag. Whether he'll still be there when the drought reaches 70 years is another matter.Player #20 - Tom de Koning

Pictured: Tom arrives at Moorabbin on the first day of pre-season
Tom de Koning, by virtue of his recently signed eleventy-billion dollar contract with St Kilda, is numerically the most overrated player in the AFL.
At around $1.7m a season (behind only Nasiah at the same club in contract terms), you would be expecting a star. A game changer. Someone who impacts games and drags his team over the line.
Lets just run the numbers shall we. In 2025, among players listed as rucks, Tom was:
23rd in average hit-outs
7th in average disposals
25th in average goals
11th in average contested marks
25th in average tackles
11th in average score involvements
10th in average centre clearances
18th in average time on ground
(Source: footywire)
All in all, TdK (as he's known) is bog-average in a number of categories, and below-average as a number 1 ruck in a bunch of categories too. No doubt he seemed to have 'checked-out' a little towards the end of the season as finals became out of the question and he had to listen to Voss trying to convince his players he had some sort of discernable gameplan... but ruck is one of the positions on the ground you have genuine one on ones for most of the game and TdK was 'just ok' at best.
It makes you wonder what St Kilda were thinking. TdK doesn't apply physical pressure, barely tackles, isn't a threat forward... he might make a decent flanker. Maybe.
The Saints are like a girl who dates a complete DH thinking "I can change him" despite all evidence to the contrary. "Maybe those tribal tattooos means he's a deep thinker" they'd say. "Maybe the No Fear sticker on his back windscreen menas he's courageous". "I'm sure he'll get work soon". "I don't know what a Moderator is, but it sounds important."
Fun fact: Tom's dad Terry played 31 games for the Bulldogs, and his brother is a defender at the Cats.
TdK, good luck to you and your accountant next year. Welcome to the Bottom 40 for 2025.

No doubt some of this was us putting our compensation pick in cotton wool, lest he get injured.Player #20 - Tom de Koning

Ridley?
(The rest are fair enough)
Oh, yeah, I’d actually forgotten the attempt to bailWas injured and shit this year and then tried to bail. I would include him. Just name Essendon entire list and Jamarra Ugle Hagan
TDK and JSOS will make you all look silly when they dominate for the Saints next year, that's providing they aren't still injured.
From our pre-season reports they're still in rehab, hopefully they don't end up like Hannebery who played 18 games in 4 years.
You forgot Shorty Daniels.Bulldogs had a pretty good run with WA talent in the 80s. Beasley and a Hardie as well.
Lol+ Dylan Shiel
I honestly can't blame those two for taking the bag. TDK is a very durable player so Saints will be fine there, but JSOS not so much.
Oh, yeah, I’d actually forgotten the attempt to bail
(Hard to blame the guy)
The very first they lost to the reigning last placed side with an average age of about 17Hey come on, when finals were actually a realistic chance for the Blues in the first two or three games of the year, TDK was absolutely elite.
I'm not too worried about TDK but JSOS was a father son pick with SOS being at the Saints now and one of Ross Lyon's mates.
And Jim Sewell, Ian Williams, Murray Rance, Tim Gepp. You forgot Shorty Daniels.
TDK should be good for at least a dozen or so games a year, provided he doesn't have too many reoccurring foot/ankle issues.TDK and JSOS will make you all look silly when they dominate for the Saints next year, that's providing they aren't still injured.

I hope the St Kilda games aren’t on at the same time as visiting hours at Barwon.JSOS is the one I'd worry about only being sporadically on the field at best
It can be if you steer clear of shit playersSos likes to keep recruiting casts off from previous clubs he was list manager (aka Liam Stocker, Paddy Dow)
Its not a premiership list building strategy imo
He owes us somethingPlayer #19 - Matt Owies

Pictured: a rare photo of Matt Owies making a West Coast fan happy
Matt Owies is a former 179cm basketballer who went to Carlton, was pushed out because they didn't want him, and found himself at a wooden spoon West Coast side for the 2025 season.
Matt started his US basketball college career at the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, which is weird to have a team named after a Greenpeace yacht that went down. After then transferring to the Seattle Titanics then the Orlando Armitages, he signed with Carlton as a Cat B rookie.
Quickly settling in as a small marking forward, Matt earned the ire of Carlton fans by being their third best goalkicker in 2024. Then Vossy decided to fool everybody by putting him up for trade and West Coast pounced.
This season Owies managed to play 16 games as a small forward. He kicked 7 goals in total, including 2 goals against Richmond in a rare win that he wouldn't have experienced in Round 1 had he stayed with Carlton. This 7 goal tally includes the 1 goal from his last 7 games at West Coast. He's a 28 year old contracted for 2 more years at a team playing its worst football in it's entire existence.
Fun fact: Owies was part of a trade that handed pick 3 to Carlton. Nobody knows why either club made that trade. Special comments professionals looks at both clubs these days and simply sigh "I'm tired, boss".
Matt, Owies, thank for your two word assessment of Carlton earlier in the year. Welcome to the Bottom 40 for 2025.
