Good long hard session in near perfect conditions this AM
Good to see Silvagni, De Boer ,Mundy and Roberton out of the rehab group and back in general training
Faulkes is beginning to really impress with his disposal and general awareness a standout .Has stacked on the condition and is no longer the skinny pushover. Will push Silvagni for that third back tall position
Balla continued to run laps and sprints but looks terrific and looks like he,s itching to get back into the general group
Rehab group consisted of Balla,Pitt,Hinkley,Shepherd and Roberts ,so a lot more manageable
Missing were Hill,Walters,Johnson,Sibo,Griffen and Houghton who had apparently gone to Sydney to paticipate in and indigenous footy camp
Fyfe didnt make an appearance,Barlowe came out briefly half way through the session ,walked a few metres and left the ground to reappear with a giant icepack attached to his shin, Hope he is OK
Mora made a short appearance and boy has he lost some weight.Cameras were there so he might make a show on one of the news
The session was terrific with all the boys working well, looking good for the first hitout

Anything speculative about my buddy? Did you do any eaves dropping to found out why?

I'm hoping the ice pack for Barlow was coz hes tearing up the track already and needed to cool down or his shin hairs would catch alight...

It was mentioned Fyfes folks property is in the storm damage area ,so maybe went home to help out

Great news update :)

As always, your input is greatly appreciated - especially by those who can't get to training due to jobs etc. - let alone our fellow docker fans outside of Perth or even WA

May be a bit worrying about Barlow but I'm honestly not expecting him back til mid-year anyway

I think the Eagles had a run around at Subi today, so I doubt it will be long before Freo train there also. They'd want at least two training sessions there before the 13th, so I'd expect the first session to be either wed or fri this week.

thanks Salim.....as mentioned, some of us tragics outside of w.a. rely on these updates to get through.

hopefully mora can keep his upper body strength up and not lose too much weight, reckon thats one of the things that will hold us back this year. A hustling bustling smashing midfielder that can break lines...think judd/kirk/selwood/sewell

Yeah I knew Griffin was - he played in the All Stars game a season or two back, but have never heard it mentioned before that Houghton is. Hope he gets something useful from being with some of the stars of the game - both on a footy and personal level. :thumbsu:

Thanks Salim, I too ventured down for my first ever session, I was the one with the two annoying little brats at the end behind the goals carrying on because the older one was getting all the stray footies kicked over the fence and turning it into a competition to send them back:o.

Anyway not that I got to see too much but a couple of additional points, Anthony was also in the rehab group and I thought I overheard a comment about some lower back pain although he did all the drills and then had attended the weights session so should all be good.

After some drills the guys did a low key scratch match running end to end. Roberton was everywhere, he, Suban and Ibbo seemed to be the best runners over the whole session, Roberton's skills were sublime on both sides and looks a monty for round 1 if he wasn't already.

I can also confirm that Mzungu also looked fantastic, unlike a Barlow and a Broughton I think we will need to cut him some slack as I think he will need those first 25 games to just add that polish but will be excellent.

I don't share the optimism of others on Crichton, now I know Crowley is superfit but after a three minute period he ran him ragged and ran him off for some easy touches which prompted some sledging from Crowley resulting in a bit of minor niggle, beautiful to watch. Michie also looks underdone fitness wise, Mellington was really good will get games this year in my opinion, Bollenhagen still doesn't quite influence the game enough but has a really good footy mind and will be good when he matures, hopefully he can get some time in the middle in the WAFL to increase his output.

Clarke moved really well around the ground as did Kepler as Sandi stayed closer to goals. Sandi still needs to hold a few more grabs and work on positioning around where the ball will drop. If he just worked opponents around in the forward line like he does with rucking he could just plant himself under the footy and do it easy.

I agree with Salim's comments on Faulks, in the highlights he looked a little all arms but he moved really well and is also a really good shot on goal. For those looking forward to retiring Grover he still has SOS and Faulks coveredat the moment for mine.

The most pleasing thing for me was the senior group all 3 year plus players looked fantastic especially at this time of year.

Good honest stuff for mine. Its good everyone is optermistic and all but i think ill reserve my judgement until after thaat first NAB cup match to see how far some of these youngsters have progressed.

Whats everyones opinion on Walters- i cant see him playing if Ballas is fit? Especially as thats the reason he played last year. No question of the ability of the lad though. Will be interesting how harvey and co work it out.

Was just thinking of all these fringe players who have seemingly stepped it up last year/over the pre-season. There will be 7 or 8 disappointed guys each weekend if everyones fit. These guys could quite easily get a game else where if they were on another list.

Just a side note- bloke from work today (recently had knee surgery) went to have a couple of checks at the radiology clinic and found himself in the lift with Schammer who happened to get off on the same floor as him. Was carrying scans etc. Probably nothing, but interesting anyway

Hope I didn't come across gloom and doomish, just probably trying to add some perspective and cut the kids some slack so that they don't have to match the expectations set by Hill, Palmer, Suban, Morabito, Barlow, Ballantyne, Fyfe......

Schammer trained in full from what I saw, maybe he has to run errands for other players:p.

Yeah i think thats a fair assessment- we're pretty lucky to have these players on our list that have produced from the get-go. Thats why i like that harves is giving these young fellas games early in their career to give them a taste then go back to the WAFL and work on the areas they were found out on. Which is why id like to see Sibo get a game early on- he doesnt need to star straight off the bat just develop. I guess it also goes back to our recruiters if these blokes are playing well from games one...

mustve been nothing for schammer- id be surpirsed if he saw any game time this year. i remember back when we drafted him and he had that big game against brissy at subi oval back when they were winning premiuerships- everyone touted him as the next big thing for freo...probably fair to say the game has changed though since then and left him behind possibly.

Anyway thanks for the updates fellas top stuff

Jessie agree about Robbo, sang his praises in previous posts and I beleive he will play Midfield, his tank and skills are as good as any in the club

Roberton was an absolute steal, can't believe we got him where and how we did. It boggles my mind that a player of his quality can still slip to where he did in the draft.

I haven't bothered mentioning Duff in any of my reports because he's just quietly doing the business. Outstanding player now. I call him the fighter pilot because of the nerves he must have to take the high risk kicks he does. I was sold on him after a pre-season scratchie against Port many years ago and happy to say I defended him tooth and nail during his so so years when he couldn't find consistency.
