You obviously did not see him last week.

I have been a big wrap for the kid but I think that he tackles like he is scared he will break a finger nail. He is great with the ball in hand but crap with out it. It pains me to say it, but he is probably one of our softest players at the moment.

that seems to be spot on

Never thought Mooney or Josh Hunt were hard footballers. Big enough that they could have impact but i've always thought both are a little bit soft.

Compare that to Selwood, Rooke, Bartel, Kelly and now Christenson (big wraps on his attack on the footy). I think there's a noticeable difference.

Corey in a different way. Might not bulldoze like the others I mentioned but he'll work his ass off, never giving up. The smother against Collingwood in the semi a few years ago is case in point.

The other day I saw a bit of the Geel v Hawks rnd 12? last year. Duncan so good- full of run and purpose and intent-looks pretty different now. I wonder if he has an injury?
It was a great game.

It was a great game.

I wonder if he is our designated outside receiver and play set up person given his disposal and ability to hurt oppositions.

Even if he was, I hardly think that a hard arse like Chris Scott would say that his defensive game is acceptable for AFL players the way it is at the moment.

His disposal by foot is first class. His defense is very ordinary and needs to improve unless if he wants to wear the Bendigo Bank jumper in the future.

Was talking to a few people yesterday who concluded that one element that separated Geelong from other teams that hasn't been discussed much is the true HARD nuts , mongrels if you like, that are essential deep in September to win a flag. We have had those in abundance, Milburn, Mooney, Scarlett, Chappy, MAX ROOKE, Selwood, Bartel, while teams like Carlton and WCE may struggle in that area. Do they have those players that are so desperate and ferocious and tough that they'd nearly die before losing an important game?

Hawks have Lewis, and Hodge, Guerra, maybe Mitchell

Other contenders do seem to be lacking in that department. Maybe the Selwoods at WCE. Thoughts? ANZAC Day.
Beau Waters at WCE is harder than granite

Personally, while the hard nuts deserve respect for their bravery and will to win the ball at all costs, give me the Keith Greig/Robbie Flower types any day...

This pre-eminence given to the in and unders makes our game uglier than it has ever been IMO....watching games of late, even in perfect conditions, it resembles the rolling mauls of Rugby Union far more regularly than it ever did, and frankly I don't like it.

Yes, the rule changes have led to this, and it has made the game harder and tougher than ever. And rightly we admire the players who sacrifice themselves to get the ball at any cost....

I am sure many will disagree, but IMO this holding the ball/incorrect disposal umpiring is not contributing to this beautiful game.....its making it uglier than Cinderella's sisters for longer periods during the game.

Not surprisingly, I am loving Motlops contributions of late...its breathtaking skills like that I put great value on. Along with the high mark, those skills made our game great.

I want to see more of it.

Agree whole:heart:edly. Think we appreciate similar players. Motlop, Varcoe, Wojo, and I used to love watching the Turner/ Flower/ Hawkins/ Wood/Raines/ Greig match ups. And will you ever forget the VanderHaar/ Knights duels? Would go from Geelong to see those epics in the days where petrol cost me a fortune.

As you say, we love the in and under players and their courage, as long as they get to display their skills too. Buddha was a rare combo of both exquisitely.

This whole discussion o mongrels was brought up by a non Geelong fan,? Tigers, whose analysis was that Geelong have an abundance, while other teams don't.
